Director of Producing

New York, New York, United States

About Perelman Performing Arts Center (PAC NYC)

Following 9/11, the community and civic planning process that resulted in the World Trade Center master plan in 2003 envisioned a new performing arts center as one of the anchors of the site. The Perelman Performing Arts Center (PAC NYC) opened in the Fall of 2023. Within its three flexible and intimate performance spaces, PAC NYC produces and presents multiple projects in theatre, dance, music and chamber opera. Across each season, we seek to celebrate life and to affirm community in our location at the World Trade Center.

Our mission

PAC NYC’s mission is to create connections by cultivating bonds between extraordinary artists and communities, with exemplary performances in active dialogue across the arts, and in our flexible, intimate spaces, inviting conversation and new relationships. Our art and our audiences reflect the dynamic energy of all five boroughs of New York City. We invite everyone to join us as we celebrate creative expression from around the world. PAC NYC is where the world trades ideas.

The role

PAC NYC is seeking an experienced, visionary, and collaborative Director of Producing to join our team. This full-time, in-person role is central to shaping and executing the artistic vision of the organization. The Director will work closely with the Artistic Director to oversee all artistic programming, including the curation of presented work and managing the commissioning, development, and production of original projects.

The successful candidate should have a proven track record and an extraordinary ability to collaborate with artists, an insatiable curiosity about multiple disciplines, a profound commitment to marginalized voices, and an unshakeable belief in art that inspires hope.

Leading a team of Producers and Associate Producers, the Director of Producing serves as the primary liaison for artists and creative teams, guiding their experience from early engagement through final presentation and beyond. This role ensures artistic integrity and excellence and supports PAC NYC’s values of access, innovation, and community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Artistic Collaboration: Partner with the Artistic Director to curate, commission, and develop a diverse range of programming that aligns with PAC NYC’s mission and values.
  • Producing Oversight: Lead the producing team through the full production lifecycle from development, pre-production, rehearsals, performance runs, and post-engagement wrap-up.

  • Artist & Creative Team Support: Serve as the primary point of contact for artists and creative teams, ensuring a nurturing and professional environment across every stage of production.
  • Interdepartmental Coordination: Work cross-functionally with the Executive Director, Director of Production, General Manager, and cross-departmental leads (Marketing, Development, Operations) to align planning and communication for artists and stakeholders.
  • Budget & Contract Collaboration: Collaborate with the Director of Production on project budgets, and with the General Manager as the GM structures deals with artists.
  • Community & Industry Engagement: Represent PAC NYC at conferences, festivals, and performances locally and internationally. Our organization seeks to pioneer audience involvement and community participation; the Director should have a passion for New York City’s diverse communities and extensive experience engaging with them.
  • Equity & Inclusion: Actively contribute to PAC NYC’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in programming, hiring, partnership, and audience engagement.

  • Exceptional collaboration skills, with a deep respect for creative voices and the ability to communicate effectively across creative, technical, and administrative teams.
  • Strong leadership and team management experience, with a focus on building and guiding inclusive and diverse teams.
  • Nimbleness, improvisational problem-solving ability, and a proclivity for managing multiple projects simultaneously are essential to success in this role.
  • Experience with managing complex production schedules and budgets.
  • Extensive knowledge of the New York City arts and cultural landscape.
  • A demonstrated commitment to equity and representation, with a focus on uplifting marginalized voices.
  • A background in commercial theater, international work, and/or experience with cross-disciplinary collaboration is a plus.
