Senior Director of Engineering, Infrastructure

Atlanta

PagerDuty, Inc. (NYSE:PD) is a global leader in digital operations management. Trusted by nearly half of both the Fortune 500 and the Forbes AI 50, as well as approximately two-thirds of the Fortune 100, PagerDuty is essential for delivering always-on digital experiences to modern businesses.

Join us. At PagerDuty, you'll tackle complex problems, collaborate with kind and ambitious people, and help build a more equitable world—all in a flexible, award-winning workplace.

The world is always on. Let’s keep it that way. PagerDuty is the operations cloud trusted by thousands of enterprises to keep their digital services always available and responsive. To support that mission, we’ve built a resilient, secure, and modern cloud infrastructure that enables our customers to operate with confidence and empowers our internal teams to move fast and deliver world-class software.

The Infrastructure Group

Our Infrastructure group builds and evolves the foundation on which all of PagerDuty runs. This includes:

  • Cloud Delivery & Site Reliability: Driving scale, resiliency, and performance for our global SaaS platform.
  • Automation & Deployment Tooling: Enabling engineering velocity through CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and automation.
  • Observability: Providing the visibility, metrics, and insights that power data-driven engineering.
  • Data Stores: Operating and scaling the distributed storage systems at the heart of our platform.
  • Developer Experience: Ensuring our engineering teams can deliver value to customers as soon as possible with best-in-place tooling and processes

The team’s mission is to ensure our infrastructure is not just keeping pace with customer needs, but staying ahead—so PagerDuty can grow reliably, securely, and efficiently.

The Role

We are looking for a Senior Director of Engineering to lead this critical group. You will set the vision for our infrastructure strategy, grow and mentor a team of leaders and engineers, and drive execution of high-impact initiatives that shape PagerDuty’s future. This role is both deeply technical and highly strategic: you’ll need to zoom into technical details when necessary, while also influencing peers and executives on business-critical decisions.

You’ll collaborate closely with Product, Security, Legal, and Customer teams, ensuring our infrastructure underpins not only engineering velocity but also customer trust, compliance, and business innovation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and drive the multi-year strategy for PagerDuty’s infrastructure and platform foundations.
  • Strong ownership of PagerDuty’s reliability patterns and practices. Bar raiser for all engineering functions.
  • Lead, mentor, and scale a diverse team of Engineering Managers, Senior Managers, and technical leaders across multiple geographies.
  • Ensure the reliability, scalability, and security of PagerDuty’s global SaaS platform.
  • Partner with peers in Engineering, Product, and Security to deliver large cross-functional initiatives.
  • Champion engineering excellence: CI/CD maturity, observability best practices, operational rigor, and incident readiness.
  • Manage budgets, headcount, and vendor relationships to optimize infrastructure investments.
  • Represent Infrastructure externally with customers and partners, and internally with executives, as a trusted voice on technical and business tradeoffs.
  • Foster a culture of inclusion, accountability, collaboration, and growth.

Basic Requirements

  • Proven experience in senior engineering leadership roles, managing multiple layers of managers.
  • Significant experience as a hands-on technical contributor earlier in your career.
  • Deep knowledge of modern infrastructure and software delivery: high availability, distributed systems, public cloud (AWS), microservices, containers, CI/CD pipelines, observability, and automation.
  • Track record of building and scaling high-performing, inclusive engineering organizations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Deep experience designing, operating, and scaling large-scale SaaS platforms on AWS (or other public clouds).
  • Familiarity with core AWS services (EC2, ECS/EKS, S3, DynamoDB, RDS, VPC, IAM, CloudWatch, etc.) and cloud-native patterns such as multi-tenancy, container orchestration, infrastructure as code, observability, and incident response.
  • Proven ability to manage cloud costs, contracts, and vendor relationships to optimize spend and efficiency.
  • Awareness of compliance and security frameworks relevant to SaaS companies (FedRAMP, SOC2, ISO 27001) and how AWS services map to them.
  • Prior experience leading Infrastructure or Platform Engineering groups in a SaaS company.
  • Experience running or partnering closely with SRE teams in a DevOps/on-call environment.
  • Experience leading globally distributed teams across multiple time zones.
  • Excellent communication skills—comfortable engaging executives, customers, and engineers alike, with bonus points for public speaking experience.
  • Track record of coaching and mentoring engineering leaders across both management and technical career paths.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance strategic vision with operational execution and tough prioritization decisions.
  • Strong business acumen and comfort in customer-facing discussions about technical capabilities, reliability, and roadmap.
  • A passion for building collaborative, inclusive engineering teams and cultures.

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
