About Position 

At the heart of Paidy’s real-time underwriting is our Credit Risk Department — a team of risk data scientists and analysts building cutting-edge risk models and strategies. Our mission is to calibrate Paidy’s risk frameworks against our corporate vision, ensuring we navigate the optimal balance between risk-taking and sustainable profitability.

We are seeking a seasoned credit risk professional to take ownership of Paidy’s credit policies lifecycle — acting as the strategic bridge between raw data insights and automated decisioning. In this role, you won't just report on data; you will define the features, requirements, and monitoring frameworks that power our underwriting engines. As a key architect of our risk strategy, you will collaborate closely with Data Science and Senior Leadership to evolve our modeling capabilities, ensuring our credit products remain both highly competitive for consumers and fundamentally resilient for the business.

Key Role and Responsibilities

• Develop a deep understanding of both underlying unit economics of Paidy’s business and the ways in which ongoing credit and fraud risk trends may impact Paidy’s profitability
• Lead the end-to-end credit risk policies lifecycle, from defining strategic requirements and exploring new opportunities to overseeing implementation and robust performance monitoring
• Enhance portfolio monitoring capabilities through detection of emerging credit trends and refining forecasting accuracy to drive proactive business decisions
• Lead members of the Risk team to architect and refine automated underwriting and limit management strategies, leveraging model insights to enhance decision accuracy and optimize Paidy’s profitability
• Act as a risk subject matter expert for new product development and changes, partnering with Product Managers and Executive Leadership to define risk mitigation features and optimize the balance between risk controls and a seamless consumer experience
• Other duties as needed or required

Skills and Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in data driven business roles, ideally within a Credit Risk, Fintech, or other financial services environment
• Track record in leading the development of novel strategies to meet business objectives
• Advanced proficiency in SQL and Python (or R)
• Familiarity with cloud-based environments and version control, specifically AWS and GitHub, is preferred.
• Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to communicate technical concepts to Product Managers and Senior Leadership.
• Business English is required, Japanese skills are a strong advantage
• Experience as a people leader
• Most importantly, we are looking for a smart person eager to take responsibility and learn
