Mechanical Design Engineer

Redmond, WA, USA

About the job

At Delart, we are a team of world-class engineers building the next generation of advanced wireless technologies that are deployed across the globe. Some of the biggest technology companies entrust us to build highly scalable, mission critical, communication and network solutions. Since our founding in 2017, we have participated in designing some of the most cutting-edge telecommunication and consumer products in the world.

Overview

Join a fast-moving hardware team building the next generation of wearable consumer electronics. We’re seeking a hands-on Mechanical Design Engineer with a strong background in rapid prototyping, mechanical integration, and fixture design to support concept development and fast iteration cycles for sensor-based hardware systems. In this role, you'll take ownership of designing and fabricating precision fixtures for flex circuits, PCBs, and assemblies integrated into head-mounted devices and other wearables. You'll collaborate across disciplines to translate abstract system requirements into robust, testable physical builds.

Responsibilities

  • Design and prototype custom mechanical fixtures, assembly jigs, and structural supports for flex PCBs, sensors, and other hardware components used in AR/VR and wearable devices.
  • Use Siemens NX to model complex assemblies, incorporating flexible and rigid components with high precision and design intent.
  • Apply hands-on knowledge of rapid prototyping methods (FDM, SLA, MJF, CNC, laser cutting) to create functional prototypes with short turnaround times.
  • Support system integration efforts by balancing mechanical, electrical, thermal, and ergonomic constraints during early-stage hardware builds.
  • Work closely with electrical and sensor engineers to evaluate component placement, assembly feasibility, and fixture effectiveness.
  • Iterate quickly on designs, explore trade-offs in material choices and part geometry, and refine builds through lab-based testing and feedback loops.
  • Apply DFM/DFX principles to ensure fixture designs are robust, testable, and suitable for small-batch fabrication.
  • Participate in physical bring-up and hands-on prototype assembly in the lab or shop environment; travel to support field testing or manufacturing as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3+ years of mechanical design experience, ideally within consumer electronics, automotive electronics, or wearable devices.
  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD tools (NX, SolidWorks, or Creo), with demonstrated experience in parametric modeling, top-down assembly design, and tolerance control.
  • Hands-on experience with rapid prototyping technologies, including 3D printing (FDM, SLA), CNC machining, and laser/waterjet cutting.
  • Solid understanding of fixture and jig design, particularly for supporting flex circuits, printed circuit boards, and mechanically sensitive assemblies.
  • Familiarity with GD&T and design fundamentals including material properties, fasteners, and structural analysis.
  • Ability to evaluate trade-offs in surface finish, part strength, fabrication time, and cost across prototyping techniques.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working on AR/VR headsets, wearable platforms, or small form-factor electromechanical systems.
  • Background integrating mechanical designs with flex PCBs and constrained sensor packages.
  • Basic knowledge of FEA or structural simulation tools such as COMSOL or Abaqus, with understanding of static and dynamic loading.
  • Familiarity with lab-based assembly, debugging, and shop workflows to support fast-paced hardware iteration.
  • Demonstrated ability to move quickly from concept to build in short design cycles, incorporating direct feedback from physical testing.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset for working across multi-disciplinary teams.

Benefits

Delart offers competitive compensation and employee benefits, including premium PPO and HMO medical insurance coverage, dental, vision, FSA, life insurance, short/long-term disability insurance, a company-matched 401k plan, and a generous paid time off policy.
