Staff Software Engineer, Backend
About Panasonic Well:
Panasonic Well is a venture and business incubator from the Panasonic Group focused on pioneering new health and wellness solutions by connecting hardware, software and services through industry-leading, responsible AI. We are committed to building an ecosystem of technology that improves well-being for every generation.
Panasonic Well operates in the US as Panasonic Well LLC and in Japan as a division of Panasonic Holdings Corporation.
About The Role:
You will work in a small team of backend service engineers to build new services from the ground-up, as well as integrate new features. You will be expected to work equally between design and hands-on development. You will work closely with a cross-functional team of other engineers, product managers, and designers to deliver core platform features. If you thrive in environments that value experimentation, and don’t mind the ambiguity that comes with early-stage projects, this could be a great fit for you.
What You’ll Get To Do:
- Collaborate closely with members of the product management and user experience to transform strategic ideas into working prototypes and launchable products.
- Collaborate on new API architectures and components, working with technical leadership and other engineers.
- Develop end-to-end solutions, contributing to both the front-end and back-end components of innovative products.
- Engage in a flexible, collaborative working environment, with opportunities to influence the long-term technical vision of projects.
- Be able to think creatively and build a wide array of different technical products.
- Be part of a “scrappy” team that values agility, resourcefulness, and innovation over rigid processes.
- Contribute to all phases of software development including ideation, prototyping, design and production.
- Plan software releases and release schedules.
- Interact with Product Management to refine product requirements; work efficiently in a cross-functional team across multiple projects.
- Understand and be able to identify bottlenecks across the system and evaluate performance of various components using de facto standard performance tools.
- Be a self-starter and be able to solve engineering problems with limited guidance.
What You’ll Bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
- 7+ years experience building backend services or cloud software.
- 5+ years of experience working on functional programming languages, specifically Java or Kotlin.
- Familiar with Typescript and React (Next.js experience is also appreciated)
- Experience with git or other version control systems
- Experience in writing, using, and debugging RESTful APIs
- Experience with domain driven services, gRPC, containerized services and kubernetes strongly preferred.
- Strong fullstack engineering skills and the ability to build, experiment, and iterate on ideas quickly.
- Experience building systems end-to-end, from front-end interfaces to back-end services.
- Nice-to-have skills: Mobile experience with Flutter is a big plus. React Native experience is also notable.
- Flexibility for cross-functional projects. Front end and backend experience is also highly notable.
- You're excited to collaborate closely with talented partners in Product, Data, Design, and Content. You enjoy solving problems with a cross-functional team and sharing knowledge. You want to grow and help the people around you grow.
- You enjoy solving technical challenges in a straightforward and maintainable way. You avoid introducing complex, novel, or "clever" solutions. You write code for humans, not for computers.
- You have a proven track record of shipping services in production environments with low latency.
- You have an empathetic mindset (for our users and the rest of our team), the ability to collaborate and communicate effectively, and a willingness and desire to learn
- Excellent problem solving and analytical thinking skills.
- Ability to be self-guided and come up with technical approaches even with limited requirements.
