Purpose of Position

A multi-year programme to build out a new best in class Data Warehouse using cloud native technologies hosted in Azure is under way at Pantheon. 

We require an experienced and passionate hands-on Business Intelligence (BI) Engineer to support the design and implementation of new features, as well as modify and maintain existing systems for adaption to business and/or technology changes. This role will be integral to the success of this programme and establishing Pantheon as a data-centric organisation.

You will be part of a small and highly skilled team and you will need to be experienced about providing best in class solutions to our global user base.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Pantheon require a highly capable, enthusiastic and experienced individual to join our team who will be responsible for supporting the design & build of Pantheon’s BI capabilities. This will be achieved through developing solutions that are technically sound, forward looking and provide data in an intuitive manner. Reporting to the VP of BI, the BI Engineer is a key contributor as will own the technical implications and support the design of BI solutions.

You will be part of a growing team and be someone that is comfortable with analysis, designing, and implementing dashboards with the required processes and controls.

  • The ideal candidate should have a strong comprehension of Azure cloud services, have previous experience of supporting the building out dashboards for release enterprise wide and be a strong advocate for data visualisation. Being a result-driven professional with a passion for innovation, this role will be integral to establishing Pantheon as a data-centric organisation.

As a BI Engineer you will:

  • Be an expert in delivering complete Power BI solutions
  • Proven specialist in designing and intuitive, interactive dashboards with insightful and engaging visualisations
  • Be self-assured in dealing with the Business users & stakeholders and working together to deliver appropriate & optimal solutions
  • Provide technical expertise for data acquisition, dataset modelling/development and report production
  • Collaborate with team members to promote best practices and use of the BI toolset
  • Be expected to work closely with business colleagues to understand and jointly develop requirements to meet the needs of BI demands
  • Work closely with your Azure Data Engineering colleagues who are building out the underlying data architecture using Data Bricks & Data Lake
  • Be able to analyse data stores and recommend ways to improve data reliability, efficiency and quality
  • Someone with a positive can-do attitude, be open and encouraging of change, be a self-starter and be self-motivated.

  Responsibilities include:

  • Advocate the effective and efficient use of Certified datasources within the business
  • Support Business Intelligence Lead in the design, build & deployment of BI solutions using Microsoft Azure stack (Power BI & Paginated Reports specifically)
  • Foster the adoption of the team’s best practices and design principles for Business Intelligence
  • Collaboration across teams to solve problems, develop & execute database queries and conduct analysis.
  • Creating visualisations & reports for the Business Units
  • Develop and update technical documentation.

Required Technical Skills and Experience

  • Have at least 5 years’ experience in Business Intelligence and have supported enterprise dashboard build out solutions previously
  • Strong expertise of Data Analytics, predominantly including Power BI
  • Knowledge of Data Warehouse design (dimensional modelling) and data mining best practices
  • Experience in implementing analytical workloads and service-service analytics scenarios
  • Experience of deployment pipelines and workflow management tools
  • Familiarity of current industry developments and challenges with an interest in future trends
  • Excellent communication skills with a natural problem-solving attitude.

Desirable Technical Skills

  • Proficient in agile working methodology using tools such as DevOps methodologies (Azure DevOps, Agile / Kanban / Scrum, CI/CD Pipeline etc.)
  • Experience in Microsoft / Azure Stack (SQL Server, data lake, delta lake and Business Intelligence (SSIS, SSAS and SSRS))
  • Other BI tools such as QlikSense, Tableau, Looker, ThoughtSpot, Sisense
  • Experience in writing and implementing test scripts, documenting issues and progress to ensure proper quality assurance, enabling formal approval and can achieve signoff into production
