Purpose of Position

The position holder will oversee various areas within the Management Company Corporate Accounting function as part of the Finance team, on behalf of the Pantheon Group. This role is critical to the integrity and efficiency of our global accounting operations, with a particular emphasis on U.S. GAAP application, internal controls, and process optimization. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise, strong leadership capabilities, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. They will demonstrate exceptional process proficiency and a highly organized approach to managing complex workflows, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and scalability across all aspects of the accounting function.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in accounting, a deep understanding of private equity structures, practices, and areas of audit focus, a sharp control eye, a mastery of effective and efficient end-to-end processes, and a proactive approach to financial analysis and compliance. Key Responsibilities

  • Partake in the development of the Team’s analysts and associates.
  • Ensure proper accounting in the books and records of the Pantheon Group and its component entities in accordance with applicable accounting standards. 
  • Maintain and enhance internal control frameworks across the accounting function, ensuring robust processes that support accurate financial reporting, management transparency, and operational efficiency.

Period End Close Process

  • Lead and contribute meaningfully to the monthly and quarterly close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to resolve complex accounting issues and streamline close procedures.
  • Prepare and review financial statement flux analyses, providing clear, insightful commentary on period-over-period variances across key accounts.
  • Ensure accurate and timely recognition of management fees, carried interest, other fund-related revenues, expenses, assets and liabilities in the books and records of the Pantheon Group and its component entities.
  • Prepare and/or review journal entries and reconciliations across multiple corporate entities.
  • Analysis of new commercial arrangements to determine appropriate accounting, and compatibility with existing reporting and control processes.

Accounting Operations

  • Maintain documentation and support for accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Oversee daily accounting activities across multiple entities, ensuring transactions are recorded accurately and in accordance with established policies.
  • Processing daily/weekly journals in the general ledger for cash, investments, expense and balance sheet transactions.
  • Identify accounting risks, process gaps, and control deficiencies, and proactively implement corrective actions and scalable solutions.
  • Promote and execute the adoption and responsible use of AI and automation tools within the accounting function to improve accuracy, efficiency, scalability, and financial reporting insights.
  • Mentor and provide oversight to accounting staff while acting as a senior escalation point for accounting issues and judgment calls.
  • Ensure data consistency and reliability across ERP systems, subledgers, and financial reporting tools.
  • Support strategic initiatives, system implementations, and process transformations from an accounting and controls perspective.
  • Gather information for strategic budget planning and forecasting exercises.

Compliance & Audit Support

  • Operating key internal controls (including sunsetting redundant or ineffective controls, design and implementation of new controls, etc.)
  • Reviewing deal documents for new/modified funds and structures to identify the revenue streams and assess for consolidation considerations in accordance with applicable accounting standards.
  • Working closely with internal and external audit on the periodic verification of reported balances.
  • Support SOX and external audits, including preparation of audit schedules and documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with fund agreements, regulatory requirements, and internal policies.

Process Improvement & Systems

  • Identify tactical opportunities to streamline accounting and reporting processes.
  • Support implementation and optimization of financial management systems (Workday).
  • Maintaining, modifying, and (if deemed necessary and appropriate) replacing tools and systems in the end-to-end financial reporting process.
  • Evaluate, implement, and optimize AI-enabled accounting processes and analytics solutions to strengthen controls, streamline reconciliations, enhance anomaly detection, and improve the integrity of financial data and reporting.

Knowledge and Experience Required

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA, ACCA, CA or equivalent professional qualification strongly preferred.
  • 5 - 10 years of experience in finance and accounting, preferably within private equity, asset management, financial services, or partnership-structured organizations.
  • Strong understanding of revenue recognition and consolidation standards (US GAAP, IFRS, UK FRS or equivalent technical standards).
  • Proficiency in accounting systems, expert Excel skills.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, and across borders with team members and management in other jurisdictions.
  • High level of professionalism, confidentiality, discretion and judgement.

Expected base salary range:  $135,000 - $150,000

 

 

Actual base salary is determined by a range of factors including individual experience, skills and qualifications. 

In addition to the above salary, Pantheon offers a generous employee benefits package and successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus
