Senior Data Scientist, User Behavior 

The Senior Data Scientist at Paperless Post is focused on user behavior and machine learning (ML). They derive deep exploratory data analysis from product usage and our customer base.  They have strong technical knowledge of ML and can autonomously build data solutions to answer complex business and product questions. As a Senior Data Scientist, they are responsible for gaining trust of senior stakeholders by distilling obscure, complicated questions into clear and accessible findings.This role reports to the Engineering Manager, Data.

Responsibilities:

  • Autonomously build machine learning models that describe and predict behavior of our users that guides the business to make more informed decisions.
  • Act as a strategic partner for functional teams, initiate and execute deep analyses to help prioritize opportunities and provide actionable recommendations that leverage our data tools Looker and Hex.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the KPIs that drive our business and identify ways of improving overall results across the company.
  • Design and build advanced data solutions to deliver superior business outcomes using research and performing quantitative and qualitative analysis.
  • Identify trends and opportunities to drive product growth.
  • Independently build trust with senior stakeholders to establish confidence in the outputs of key metrics from data science models. 
  • Key contributor in ideation sessions to define quarterly data science tactics.
  • Participate actively in the Agile development cycle.

Qualifications:

  • 6+ years experience in a data analytics and/or data science role.
  • Advanced knowledge of SQL and Python (R optional).
  • Strong track record in analytics using statistics and machine learning.
  • Experience with reporting analytics and BI tools, preferably DBT, Looker, Hex.
  • Skilled at extracting insights and storytelling using impactful visualizations.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, autonomous, and highly organized.
  • Experience working with cloud data warehouses.
  • Familiarity with dimensional modeling database concepts, fact and dim tables.
  • Experience working with and cleaning unstructured data.
  • Ability to present complex information in an easy-to-understand and digestible manner.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with team members who are highly technical as well as those with limited or no statistical training.
  • Comfort with the ambiguity that sometimes comes with a fast-paced start-up atmosphere.

The compensation range for this role is $140,000 - 160,000 USD. 

At Paperless Post, compensation is based on a number of factors, including geographic location, job-related skills, years of experience, and internal team banding. All full-time offer packages come with a base salary, equity component, and options for fully paid medical, dental, and vision benefits.The range posted here is based on the NYC market and may vary based on candidate location.
