As a Data Scientist in our Commercial Analytics team, you will play a pivotal role in optimizing clinical trial strategies and supporting our commercial team with data-driven insights. You’ll work closely with sales, clinical, and operational stakeholders to perform advanced data analytics, promote data-driven approaches, develop impactful reports and dashboards to ultimately drive business growth. Your work will directly contribute to assessing clinical trial feasibility, improving customer engagement, and advancing operational efficiency in the clinical research space.

What you’ll do:

  • Deliver prompt and high-quality support to Paradigm’s Commercial team, promoting data-driven discussions to drive business growth.
  • Conduct rigorous and reproducible analytics to support commercial operations, focusing on pharmaceutical development trends, operational metrics, and client engagement strategies.
  • Review Clinical Trial protocols to extract and codify inclusion and exclusion criteria, and create patient cohorts for feasibility reporting and align trial criteria with business objectives and client needs.
  • Follow and cultivate data science best practices like code reviews, unit testing, code versioning, and impact analysis before promoting to production.
  • Contribute to the codebase by developing new SQL and Python logic, and leverage existing tools for commercial insights.
  • Leverage Large Language Models (LLMs) to extract and derive new data elements, enhancing clinical trial recruitment efforts.
  • Develop KPI metrics, forecasting and projections to assess clinical trial programs and track clinical trial performance, patient recruitment, and operational efficiency.
  • For senior applicants, there will be an opportunity to mentor and support junior data scientists, providing guidance on analytics tasks, best practices, and professional development.

Who you are:

  • You are an experienced Data Scientist with a strong interest in the clinical trial space and a passion for advancing healthcare through data.
  • You have a proven track record of supporting Commercial teams and Business Development efforts with data-driven insights.
  • You stay up-to-date with the latest trends in the pharmaceutical industry and have a keen understanding of how they impact the clinical trial landscape.
  • You have hands-on experience working with Oncology data, particularly EHR and/or claims datasets for oncology patients.
  • You are tech-savvy, analytical, and comfortable working with complex datasets and advanced data tools.
  • You are naturally curious and analytical, with a strong ability to wrangle and interpret diverse datasets to drive meaningful insights.
  • You thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environments and are adaptable to the rapidly evolving nature of startups.
  • You have excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and creatively in a data-driven context.
  • You excel at collaborating with cross-functional teams and translating technical findings into actionable business strategies.

What you bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in data science, biostatistics, mathematics, epidemiology or related field
  • 4+ years experience as a data analyst, data scientist or other highly analytical role, preferably in the life sciences, biotech, or pharmaceutical industries
  • Deep understanding of clinical data elements in oncology and familiarity with clinical trials
  • Understanding of information security best practices as they relate to patient privacy and clinical data regulations.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage with external clients and internal stakeholders effectively.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to quickly understand the scope of a problem, gather requirements, translate that to an action plan, and execute in close partnership with stakeholders
  • Proficiency in SQL and a programming language (Python and PySpark preferred, but open to candidates with experience in other relevant languages like R/Julia/etc)
  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Plotly, matplotlib, ggplot, Tableau, Databricks) to create insightful and actionable dashboards and reports tailored to business needs
  • Comfort with ambiguity and ability to thrive in a mission-driven, fast-paced startup environment
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities effectively, demonstrating flexibility across a range of tasks driven by customer interactions

Bonus:

  • Master’s degree or higher
  • Deep understanding of clinical trial industry 
  • Strong statistical knowledge, including regression, classification, hypothesis testing, etc.
  • Experience in customer engagement and commercial analytics is a plus
