About the Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Industrial Wastewater Engineer to support our Greater Washington Environmental Planning and Compliance (EP&C) team. You’ll support the planning, permitting, design, and improvement of wastewater systems, with a particular focus on regulatory compliance and discharge permitting. The ideal candidate brings strong knowledge of NPDES and state-specific discharge permits, including Water Pollution Control Facilities (WPCF) permits, and can help clients navigate complex federal, state, and local requirements. This is also an opportunity to serve as a technical resource and mentor, helping early-career engineers and technical staff strengthen their knowledge of wastewater permitting. The position will be based in one of our Washington offices, with flexibility for a hybrid/remote schedule based on team integration, project needs, and experience level.

Your Role on the Team:

  • Interpret regulatory requirements and develop the policies, plans, and procedures needed to support compliance.
  • Track, review, and assess federal, state, and local legislation and regulations related to stormwater and discharges to surface water and groundwater.
  • Prepare compliance documents, technical reports, and other written materials related to NPDES and state-specific discharge permits.
  • Prepare permit applications, renewal applications, modifications, and regulatory agency reports.
  • Develop water balances, process flow diagrams, and process equipment recommendations.
  • Support the planning, design, rehabilitation, and improvement of municipal and industrial wastewater systems.
  • Collaborate with clients, regulatory agencies, engineers, and other technical professionals.
  • Mentor developing engineers and technical staff in wastewater permitting and regulatory compliance.
  • Manage assigned work within established budgets, schedules, and resource plans while maintaining high-quality technical outcomes.

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical, civil, environmental, mechanical, or a related engineering discipline; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • Five or more years of experience supporting the design and permitting of wastewater projects.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Washington or Oregon, or the ability to obtain licensure within one year of hire.
  • Strong knowledge of wastewater permitting and applicable federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with NPDES permits and state-specific wastewater discharge permits, including WPCF permits.
  • Experience supporting wastewater and recycled water permitting in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, or other Western states.
  • The ability to interpret complex regulations and translate them into clear, practical guidance for clients and project teams.
  • Experience with routine wastewater pumping and monitoring.
  • Familiarity with industrial wastewater facilities, operations, design standards, and construction practices.
  • Experience preparing clear, well-organized permit applications, regulatory reports, and technical documents.
  • Familiarity with relevant engineering software and technical tools.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and mentoring skills.
  • The ability to balance multiple assignments and work effectively within project budgets and schedules.

If you believe you belong to any of the categories of protected veterans listed below, please indicate by making the appropriate selection. As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

A "recently separated veteran" means any veteran during the three-year period beginning on the date of such veteran's discharge or release from active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval, or air service.

An "Armed forces service medal veteran" means a veteran who, while serving on active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service, participated in a United States military operation for which an Armed Forces service medal was awarded pursuant to Executive Order 12985.

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 07/31/2029

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
