About the Opportunity

We are looking for On-Call Archaeologists (Cultural Resources Specialists) to join our growing Cultural Resources team in Washington State. This is a great opportunity for archaeologists who enjoy hands-on fieldwork, working on diverse projects, and contributing to the preservation and responsible management of cultural resources.

Our team supports a wide variety of infrastructure, transportation, energy, and environmental projects throughout Washington and the Pacific Northwest. With a strong pipeline of upcoming work, we're looking to expand our team of on-call professionals to support archaeological surveys, investigations, and other field activities.

This is a field-based position with work scheduled based on project needs and individual availability. We anticipate immediate opportunities for field assignments, with the potential for ongoing work as project needs evolve. Hours will vary and are not guaranteed.

Your Role on the Team:

  • Conduct archaeological pedestrian surveys, field investigations, and cultural resources assessments under the direction of senior archaeological staff.
  • Assist with archaeological testing, excavation, monitoring, and documentation activities.
  • Identify, record, and document archaeological resources in accordance with established field methods and project requirements.
  • Collect accurate field data, maintain detailed field notes, and assist with preparing site forms and technical documentation.
  • Support cultural resources compliance efforts associated with transportation, energy, utility, and other infrastructure projects.
  • Collaborate with archaeologists, project managers, and multidisciplinary teams to complete field assignments safely, efficiently, and accurately.
  • Follow established archaeological field procedures, safety protocols, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Travel to project sites throughout Washington and potentially other locations in the Pacific Northwest, depending on project needs.

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a closely related field.
  • Previous archaeological fieldwork experience, including pedestrian survey, archaeological testing, excavation, or monitoring.
  • Familiarity with archaeological field methods, documentation procedures, and cultural resources management practices.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and terrain, including remote or rugged locations.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to maintain accurate field records.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a field crew.
  • Willingness and availability to travel for field assignments, which may include overnight stays or extended field rotations.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project locations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience conducting archaeological fieldwork in Washington State or the Pacific Northwest.
  • Familiarity with federal and state cultural resources regulations, including Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act.
  • Experience using GPS/GIS equipment and digital field data collection tools.
  • Previous experience supporting cultural resources investigations for transportation, utilities, energy, or public infrastructure projects.
