About the Opportunity

We are looking for a Civil Engineering Intern to join our Transportation team in Emeryville, California. This is a great opportunity for a student interested in transportation engineering, roadway design, and complete streets to gain hands-on experience while working alongside experienced engineers and project teams.

We anticipate approximately 12–24 hours per week during the academic year, with the opportunity to work full-time during summer and school breaks based on your interest and availability.

Our Emeryville team enjoys a collaborative, fun, and supportive office environment. Team members typically work in the office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and we would like our intern to spend some time in person on those days to support mentorship, learning, and team connections. We recognize the importance of balancing work with academic commitments and will work with you to establish a schedule that supports both.

At Parametrix, we believe internships should provide meaningful, real-world experience. You will have opportunities to contribute to actual projects, develop technical skills, and learn what it means to be a consulting engineer.

Many of our interns continue their careers with Parametrix after graduation, and we enjoy supporting their growth from students to engineering professionals.

Your Role on the Team:

  • Support civil engineering design for transportation facilities, roadway improvements, complete streets, and multimodal transportation projects.
  • Assist with the preparation of engineering plans, drawings, calculations, and technical documentation under the guidance of experienced engineers.
  • Gain exposure to roadway geometry, bicycle and pedestrian facilities, intersection improvements, and other transportation infrastructure.
  • Learn and develop skills using engineering design software, including AutoCAD Civil 3D and other relevant tools.
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, and project managers to support project development and delivery.
  • Participate in project meetings, design reviews, and opportunities to learn about the engineering consulting process.
  • Gain exposure to real-world design challenges, project coordination, and the development of solutions that improve mobility and safety in our communities.

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Interest in transportation engineering, roadway design, complete streets, and multimodal transportation solutions.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or other engineering design tools is helpful but not required.
  • Curiosity, initiative, and a willingness to learn from experienced professionals.
