About the Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Project Controls Analyst to join our Southwest Region and serve as a key financial and project delivery partner to regional leadership, project managers, and our Finance team.
This position plays an important role in supporting the financial performance of our projects, from scope and fee development, forecasting, pre-bill review, and project closeout. You will work closely with project managers to provide financial insights, identify potential risks, and help ensure projects are delivered successfully and meet financial expectations.
The ideal candidate brings a strong financial background within the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) consulting industry, understands the business side of project delivery, and enjoys collaborating with others to improve processes and project outcomes.
Our preference is for this position to be based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Emeryville or San Diego, California, although we are open to considering other Parametrix offices within our Southwest Region. This role offers opportunities to work closely with regional teams and leadership, with flexibility for a hybrid work arrangement based on business needs.
Your Role on the Team:
- Partner with regional leadership, project managers, and Finance to support project financial management, performance, and overall business operations.
- Support the development and review of project scopes, fees, budgets, and financial plans, helping ensure alignment between project commitments, resources, and financial expectations.
- Monitor project financial performance, including budgets, expenditures, labor utilization, profitability, and remaining fees, identifying trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Prepare and maintain project financial reports, forecasts, and related analyses to support informed decision-making and proactive project management.
- Collaborate with project managers and finance to review monthly pre-bills for accuracy, including project charges, labor, expenses, contract terms, and budget alignment, identifying discrepancies and coordinating necessary adjustments prior to invoicing.
- Assist project managers with project setup, contract modifications, budget updates, and ongoing financial tracking throughout the project lifecycle.
- Identify financial variances, emerging risks, and potential project performance concerns, working with project managers to develop practical solutions.
- Support project forecasting, including estimates to complete, anticipated revenue, staffing needs, and project financial outcomes.
- Help strengthen consistency and efficiency in project controls practices, financial reporting, and project management processes across the Southwest Region.
- Build strong working relationships across disciplines and offices, serving as a trusted resource for project managers and leadership.
What You Bring to the Team:
- 5+ years of experience in project controls, project accounting, financial analysis, or project financial management within the AEC consulting industry.
- Strong understanding of project financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, revenue, profitability, billing, and financial reporting.
- Experience supporting project managers with scope and fee development, project budgets, and financial performance.
- Familiarity with AEC project delivery processes, including time-and-materials, lump-sum, and other professional services contract structures.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial information, identify potential issues, and provide practical recommendations.
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, construction management, or a related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
