The Data Platform Team @ Pave
The Data Platform team owns the data infrastructure that makes Pave work, connecting Pave's platform to the HRIS, EMS, ATS, and partner systems that power our customers' compensation workflows. Without reliable, high-quality integrations, none of Pave's products can deliver their full value. This is a high-leverage role at the core of Pave's platform strategy. This is also a rare opportunity to join as a founding engineer on the team - meaning you won't just be executing on a defined roadmap, but actively shaping how the platform is architected, what gets prioritized, and what engineering culture looks like from day one. As a Staff Software Engineer on the Data Platform team, you will set the technical direction for how Pave builds, scales, and operates its integrations infrastructure. You'll have a direct line from your architectural decisions to product capabilities and customer outcomes.
What You'll Do
- Assess the existing integrations infrastructure and drive high-impact architectural changes that improve reliability, performance, and developer experience
- Set the technical direction for how Pave builds and operates its connector and pipeline platform at scale
- Design and build new partner integrations and establish patterns that make future integrations faster to deliver
- Own data quality end-to-end, building validation, anomaly detection, and confidence signals that ensure customer data is accurate and up to date
- Build and scale the normalization layer that transforms messy, inconsistent data from thousands of customers into Pave's canonical data model
- Evaluate and apply AI to data normalization challenges, including automated field mapping, entity resolution, and data quality detection to improve data quality and reduce the manual effort of onboarding new customers
- Build and improve observability tooling: monitoring, alerting, and debugging infrastructure that gives the team and customers confidence in pipeline health
- Partner with product, go-to-market, and engineering leadership to shape the integrations roadmap and surface technical tradeoffs and investment needs
- Mentor and uplevel the engineers around you, creating leverage through coaching and the standards you set
What You'll Bring
- 8+ years of experience building and shipping production-grade software, with significant depth in integrations, data pipelines, or platform infrastructure
- Demonstrated ability to assess an existing system, identify structural weaknesses, and deliver architectural improvements that have lasting impact
- Deep understanding of integration patterns, API design, and the operational challenges of third-party data dependencies at enterprise scale
- A track record of working across team boundaries and influencing technical direction without direct authority
- Strong judgment in prioritization - able to sequence a large surface area of work and create as much value through what you simplify or kill as through what you ship
- Execution oriented - equally comfortable defining the architecture and rolling up your sleeves to drive implementation
Compensation, It's What We Do.

Life @ Pave
Founded in 2019 with a clear purpose and a team that has never wavered from it, Pave has grown into a global force in compensation management — giving thousands of companies the tools to take control, build confidence, and earn credibility in every pay decision they make. And we're just getting started. Headquartered in San Francisco's Financial District, with regional hubs in New York City's Flatiron District, Salt Lake City, Kraków (Poland), and the United Kingdom — wherever you're based, you'll find the same thing: people who genuinely care about the work, each other, and the customers that rely on Pave.
We run a hybrid culture that brings teams together in person on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday — and every Friday, the whole company gathers for our Team Sync: breakfast, new hire welcomes, product updates, fireside chats, and yes, the occasional Kahoot. It's one of the things people notice when they join us — that we truly enjoy spending time together.
Our culture is shaped by five values we live every day:
- Be Intellectually Honest — Truth over comfort. We face reality clearly and speak directly, even when it's hard.
- Play to Win — We're not here to participate. We're here to be the #1 compensation platform in the world, and we act like it.
- Uphold the Pave Platinum Standard — We hold ourselves to the highest bar — for our customers, our data, and each other.
- One Team — We win and lose together. Titles don't drive decisions here — shared goals do.
- Hug of Jawn — Hard to define, impossible to miss. Ask your recruiter.
Our Vision: Unlock a labor market built on trust.
Our Mission: Build confidence in every compensation decision.
We build software that transforms how companies pay their people — and we believe the team behind that software deserves the same thoughtfulness. If you're ready to help shape the future of compensation alongside people who are smart, humble, and genuinely motivated by the problem we're solving, we'd love to meet you.
Still deliberating? Just apply! We're always excited to meet people who are eager to contribute.
