the role
You'll join the team behind our APM Gateway, the service that connects payabl. merchants to hundreds of alternative and local payment methods, from wallets and bank transfers to stablecoin settlements. Every new method you integrate opens a new market for our merchants, so the impact is easy to see.
This is a hands-on senior role. You'll own services end to end, shape technical direction with your squad, and help raise the engineering bar across the team.
what you'll do
- Design, build and run high-availability backend services in Python that process real-time payment traffic
- Integrate new alternative payment methods (APMs) and providers, from API design to production rollout
- Own reliability: observability, alerting, incident response and the fixes that stop it happening twice
- Build security, PCI and regulatory requirements into the design from day one
- Review code, mentor engineers and lead technical design discussions
- Work closely with Product, QA and Risk to ship features merchants actually feel
what you bring
- 5+ years building production backend systems, with strong Python (FastAPI, Django or similar)
- Solid experience with distributed systems, REST APIs, message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ) and SQL databases
- Comfort with containers and cloud infrastructure (Docker, Kubernetes, AWS or GCP) and CI/CD
- A habit of writing clean, tested code and documenting decisions
- Clear communication in English across teams and time zones
nice to have
Payments or fintech experience (acquiring, APMs, PSP integrations), PCI DSS knowledge, or experience with crypto/stablecoin rails.
