Job Description

We are working to provide the best financial services to users in Japan. We empower PayPay Card products by realizing efficient, stable and optimized storage services. PayPay Card is looking for Database Administrators/Engineers who specialize in databases at scale on mission critical systems.

Main Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day database operations including monitoring, configuration, upgrades, scaling, backups, and data migrations.
  • Continuously improve database operations through automation, tooling, and process optimization.
  • Manage backups, replication, failover, and disaster recovery (DR) strategies to ensure business continuity.
  • Implement and maintain database security policies, including access control and auditing.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulatory standards (e.g., PCI DSS).
  • Troubleshoot and resolve performance and stability issues in production environments.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and incident response using tools like PagerDuty to support 24/7 availability of critical systems.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to design scalable data models and optimize query performance.
  • Research, test, and adopt emerging technologies in the database and cloud ecosystem to enhance platform capabilities.
  • Create and maintain documentation for architecture, standard procedures, and operational best practices to support effective knowledge sharing and decision-making.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the reliability, availability, and scalability of database infrastructure.

※ Depending on the team you are assigned to, there is a possibility of being required to work in the office.

Tech Stack

  • Languages: Python, Shell, SQL
  • Databases: Oracle, MySQL (including Aurora MySQL and RDS for Oracle)
  • Cloud: AWS (RDS, Aurora, EC2, S3, lambda, Secrets Manager, Cloudwatch etc.)
  • Tools: GitHub, Terraform, Flyway
  • Collaboration: Slack, Zoom, Jira, Confluence, Miro

Required Qualifications

  • More than 5 years of DBA experience with a minimum of 3 years ORACLE or MySQL experience
  • More than 3 years of AWS experience
  • Practical experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform.
  • Interested in new technologies and willing to improve operational quality and efficiency
  • Strong scripting skills (Python, Shell, etc.) for automation and tooling.
  • English business proficiency

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in automating operations related to Database or AWS
  • Familiarity with containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Hands-on experience in operating AWS Aurora database (Postgres/Mysql compatible)
  • Hands-on experience in operating AWS RDS for ORACLE
  • Japanese conversational proficiency is a plus

Employment Status

  • Full Time

Office Location

  • Hybrid Workstyle (flexible working style including Remote and office)
    ※There are no fixed rules regarding office attendance in Technology group; it depends on each individual's discretion.

Work Hours

  • Full Flex Time (No Core Time)
  • In principle, 9:00am ~ 5:45pm (actual working hours: 7h45m + 1h break)

Holidays

  • Every Sat/Sun/National holidays (In Japan)/New Year's break/Company-designated Special days

Paid leave

  • Annual leave (up to 14 days in the first year, granted proportionally according to the month of employment. Can be used from the date of hire)
  • Personal leave (5 days each year, granted proportionally according to the month of employment)

Salary

  • Annual salary paid in 12 installments (monthly)
  • Reviewed once a year
