Role: Mechanical Design Engineer – Exterior Design (Glazing & Sealing Focus)
Location: Fremont, CA
We are seeking a seasoned Mechanical Design Engineer to join our dynamic team in redefining electric RV living. In this role, you will focus heavily on the design and integration of glazing and sealing systems within the vehicle’s exterior and closure components. You will bring your expertise in materials, manufacturing, and sealing/glazing best practices to deliver weatherproof, durable, and aesthetically integrated solutions that meet the unique demands of mobile living.
This is a hands-on engineering role that will work closely with cross-functional partners to ensure exceptional design quality, performance, and manufacturability.
Key Responsibilities:
-
Design, engineer, and validate glazing and sealing systems for doors, windows, skylights, and other exterior closures to meet weather sealing, thermal performance, acoustic, and durability requirements.
-
Develop and iterate exterior component designs from concept through production, focusing on water and air sealing performance and integration of glazing solutions.
-
Collaborate cross-functionally with teams in structures, manufacturing, design, and supply chain to ensure a seamless interface between glazing, seals, and adjacent components.
-
Work with suppliers to select appropriate glass types, coatings, seals, adhesives, and installation methods that meet performance targets and manufacturing constraints.
-
Utilize FEA, CFD, and other simulation tools to validate structural, thermal, and sealing performance in varied environmental conditions.
-
Drive testing and validation of glazing and sealing systems, including leak testing, thermal cycling, and noise/vibration/harshness (NVH) assessments.
-
Manage CAD models, drawings, tolerance stacks, and BOMs with a focus on fit, finish, and assembly robustness.
-
Keep up to date with industry innovations in glazing materials, sealing techniques, and bonding technologies, bringing fresh ideas to enhance product reliability and comfort.
Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
-
5–10 years of experience in automotive or consumer product design, with specific experience in glazing, sealing, or closure systems.
-
Proficient in CAD software (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks) and analysis tools (e.g., FEA, CFD).
-
Strong understanding of glass and polymeric materials, seal types (bulb, edge, lip, etc.), and bonding methods used in mobile environments.
-
Hands-on experience with environmental testing, root cause analysis, and design for sealing robustness.
-
Excellent collaboration and communication skills across engineering, manufacturing, and supplier teams.
-
Prior experience in RVs or recreational vehicles is a plus.
