Role Summary
Role: Senior Mechanical Engineer – Mechanical Systems
Location: Fremont, CA
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic startup in disrupting mobility and living space. With a strong track record of developing and shipping products in the consumer or vehicle industries, the ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of vehicle systems and design principles, materials, and manufacturing processes. This individual will develop and coordinate the various mechanical systems and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, to design, develop, and refine the Company products that exceed customer expectations.
The Mechanical Systems for Pebble vehicles include the Aero-box components and mechanisms, e-Steps, and specific provisions for interfacing with the powertrain components on the vehicle body and chassis. These systems are designed to integrate seamlessly with the main vehicle systems and controls.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and lead the design of specific Mechanical Systems for Pebble vehicles. This includes integrating the Aero-box with the body and chassis, installing and optimizing e-Steps for vehicle access, and providing mounts and interfaces for powertrain components on the vehicle chassis and body.
- Create and execute innovative vehicle design concepts, guiding them from initial concept to production implementation. Utilize a strong knowledge of engineering and electromechanical principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, marketing, and manufacturing, to ensure designs meet performance, safety, compliance, and quality standards while aligning with project timelines and budget constraints.
- Design and develop systems and components using calculations and analysis, including Computer Assisted Engineering (CAE) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), to optimize and validate system design and engineering, ensuring it meets functional and performance requirements.
- Develop, create, and manage design and engineering documentation, including CAD models, drawings, diagrams, schematics, routings, specifications, and Bill of Materials (BOM), ensuring accurate and up-to-date information is available for the project team.
- Continuously research and stay informed on emerging trends, technologies, and materials in the automotive industry, identifying opportunities for improvement and innovation within the company's product portfolio.
- Lead design reviews, providing constructive feedback and recommendations for improvement to ensure a high level of product quality and functionality.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including suppliers and customers, to address technical issues and ensure alignment on project goals and deliverables.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's, or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Vehicle/Automotive Engineering, or a related field. Vehicle industry knowledge and experience is a plus.
- 8+ years of experience in automotive, trucks, or busses, or recreational vehicle fields, with a proven track record of developing and implementing successful products.
- Proficiency with CAD software (specifically CATIA) and design analysis tools (e.g., FEA, CFD).
- Strong knowledge of structural components, aero-dynamics, mechanisms, materials, manufacturing processes, and industry standards related to vehicle design and development.
- Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills, with a keen eye for detail and quality.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment and present technical information to various audiences.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced, startup environment.
- Self-starter, versatile, hands-on and accomplishments driven.
- Familiarity with vehicle/automotive safety and regulatory requirements is a plus.
- Experience in the RV industry is a bonus
