Overview of the Role: 

We are looking for a Vice President of Engineering with great technical and architectural vision to join our Leadership Team. This role requires a multi-disciplinary technical expert and collaborative leader, adept at guiding and supporting organizations through building the foundations to scale, and everything in between. Technically, we’re most excited about Data, Platform, and AI/ML transformation experience and your ability to translate large strategic goals into exciting and inspirational milestones for your team. As our Engineering Leader, we will look to you to grow, mentor, and build a high performing, mission driven global team. 

This will be a hybrid role, located in commutable distance to our NYC office for weekly lunches, collaboration, and teamwork. 

In this role you will…

  • Reporting to the Chief Product Officer, you will develop and execute a technical vision that aligns with our company’s growth objectives, focusing on scaling our platform and integrating advanced technologies such as machine learning and AI.
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a globally distributed multi-disciplinary engineering team, fostering a culture of innovation, decisiveness, and excellence.
  • Drive evolution of our platform, moving from current technologies to fully integrated large language models (LLM) and other cutting-edge solutions. 
  • Lead the transformation of our existing platform, guiding the transition from current technologies to fully integrated large language models (LLM) and other state-of-the-art solutions to ensure that our platform remains robust, scalable, and capable of supporting advanced functionalities that set us apart.
  • Jumpstart architectural initiatives, working closely with the team to implement robust solutions without relying on external enterprise architects.
  • Initiate and Execute key architectural initiatives, working hands-on with your team to implement resilient, scalable solutions. 
  • Lay the foundational technical groundwork necessary for our company's long-term growth. Drawing from your experience in successfully scaling startups, you will ensure that our systems, processes, and technologies are built to handle the demands of rapid expansion, positioning us for sustained success as we move towards key milestones like an eventual exit.

The background we are looking for... 

  • Exceptional leadership and people management skills, with demonstrated success in leading large (20+) cross-functional and globally distributed teams, including Platform and Software Engineers
    • Preference for experience managing offshore teams
  • Strong POV on enterprise architecture. Preference for deep experience with Platform businesses vs Product businesses
  • Passion for using technology and innovation for good, with a curiosity to explore emerging trends and technologies in the health tech space and the rapidly evolving AI landscape
  • Outcome-oriented with a track record of delivering to impressive timescales 
  • You are a mentor and a coach to your teams, leading from the front and inspiring them towards exceptional results
  • Proven ability to energize and motivate engineering teams, fostering a collaborative and inclusive Engineering culture
  • Significant startup / growth stage experience, with strong bias for action and high ownership mentality 
  • Experience in building, delivering, and maintaining a multi-year technology roadmap that supports the company vision and product roadmap
  • Preference for experience in a regulated industry
  • Willingness to travel to London and Bangalore offices

The provided range reflects our US target salary range for this full-time position, which is part of our broader total compensation package, including stock options, comprehensive benefits, and incentive pay applicable to eligible roles. Individual pay within the range will vary based on a variety of factors like role-related experience and education, internal pay equity, and other relevant business factors. At Pelago, we are committed to an equitable and fair pay philosophy and review total compensation for our employees at least twice a year.
