About the Role:
As a Strategic Business Development Representative, you are a critical driver of new opportunity development at Pelago, a mission-driven organization tackling the addiction crisis head-on. As the leader in substance use management, Pelago is paving the way in delivering gold standard SUD treatment nationwide. You'll play a pivotal role in introducing our groundbreaking digital clinic to the largest employers in the US. By doing this, you're helping ensure employees everywhere can access top-notch treatment for substance use disorders.

This is a hybrid role, requiring in-office presence on Tuesdays and Thursdays each week for team collaboration and in-office lunches at our NYC HQ.
In this role you will:
Strategic Opportunity Generation and Qualification
- Identifies, engages, and qualifies potential customers to build a strong sales pipeline. Uses data-driven insights to prioritize high-value opportunities.
- Builds and nurtures relationships with key stakeholders, partners, and prospects to expand market reach and drive long-term business growth.
- Assess and prioritize inbound Marketing Qualified Leads (MQLs), converting them into well-qualified opportunities for RVPs.
- Collaborates with marketing teams to refine messaging, target audiences effectively, and drive seamless lead handoff to sales.
- Leverage creativity and data to execute engagement strategies, such as gifting, event follow-ups, and tailored campaigns.
Leadership and Accountability
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align engagement efforts with broader business goals.
- Embrace and embody a leadership mindset, demonstrating independence in driving account strategies and solving challenges.
- Contribute to a high-performing, collaborative team culture that values innovation, accountability, and shared success.
- Consistently exceed qualified EL quotas by combining strategic planning, creativity, and persistence.
- Maintain an accurate and well-documented pipeline in CRM tools, providing clear visibility into progress and opportunities.
The background we are looking for:
- 3+ Years of relevant experience in business development and/or sales
- Expertise with sales technologies and CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce, Salesloft/Outreach, Sales Navigator)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills to manage pipelines and outreach effectively.
- Ability to understand and connect with the needs of prospects and clients.
- Results-oriented with a focus on using data to refine strategies and achieve goals.
- Takes initiative and thrives in a fast-paced, startup environment.
- Resilient in the face of rejection and consistently maintains a positive attitude.
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with key decision-makers.
- Experience in digital health industry, or selling into HR Benefits Organizations
The provided range reflects our US target salary range for this full-time position, which is part of our broader total compensation package, including stock options, comprehensive benefits, and incentive pay applicable to eligible roles. Individual pay within the range will vary based on a variety of factors like role-related experience and education, internal pay equity, and other relevant business factors. At Pelago, we are committed to an equitable and fair pay philosophy and review total compensation for our employees at least twice a year.
Base Pay Range
$60,000 - $70,000 USD
The following pay range reflects the OTE for this role. In addition to the base salary, this position is also eligible for variable compensation tied to individual and company performance. The combined total compensation package will depend on performance outcomes.
OTE Pay Range
$100,000 - $110,000 USD
