About the Role:

We are searching for an experienced Engineering Manager to join Perpay and lead one of our Product Engineering teams. You will support and mentor a team of Engineers while delivering large-scale projects from start-to-finish, and given our people-first approach, your elevated level of contribution will strengthen our culture of inclusion, mentorship, and continuous learning.

As a leader of Perpay’s Engineering team, you’ll collaborate with stakeholders ranging from entry-level contributors to senior-level executives. The ideal candidate has a bias toward action, and ownership of moving the business forward. This is a unique opportunity as it offers the chance to provide leadership to our rapidly growing team during a significant moment in our history. Reports to the Director of Engineering. Our tech stack: Javascript, React, Redux, Python, Django, Flask, Kubernetes, AWS, Docker and more

Responsibilities:

• Lead and support a team of 4-6 Engineers through executing on projects, growing careers, and encouraging an environment to do our best work
• Directly contribute through writing tech specs, shipping code, and participating in on-call (expect about 50% time spent hands on technically, depending on team size)
• Develop technical requirements alongside our Product team
• Solve problems that span multiple interconnected systems with distributed architectures and scaling systems
• Make data and metrics-driven decisions to improve the user experience as well as developer quality of life
• Continue to improve how we build, test, and deliver software
• Collaborate with our stakeholders to design and implement new credit products, as well as new features for our existing platform

What You’ll Bring:

• 5+ years of experience building applications at scale in at least one popular programming language / framework (Python, Javascript, PHP, Ruby, etc.)
• 2+ years of experience directly managing and supporting engineers
• Experience working on consumer-facing products and demonstrating empathy for end-users
• Strong technical background, with experience in software engineering, architecture, and design – with a record of supporting growing your team technically
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain highly technical subject matter to a non-technical audience
• Proven history of high empathy and experience collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders, finding compromises when necessary – our friends in Product, Design, Marketing, etc are very close partners, and we all build as one team.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, startup environment, with a passion for innovation and continuous improvement
• Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with a focus on delivering high-quality products and driving results
• Strong proficiency in at least one backend application framework such as Django or Flask and experience with frontend technologies such as React, Angular, or Vue.js
• Experience working with cloud infrastructure and containerization technologies such as AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes is preferred
