Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Systems Administrator with a strong focus on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) to join our growing IT team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the deployment, maintenance, monitoring, and optimization of our GCP cloud infrastructure. This role requires a proactive approach to ensure the reliability, security, and efficiency of our cloud environments, as well as meticulous tracking of cloud resource utilization and billing.
Key Responsibilities:
- GCP Infrastructure Management:

- Design, deploy, and manage scalable and secure GCP cloud environments, including Compute Engine, Cloud Storage, VPC, Cloud SQL, Kubernetes Engine (GKE), and other relevant GCP services.
- Implement and maintain infrastructure-as-code (IaC) using tools like Terraform or Cloud Deployment Manager.
- Ensure optimal performance, availability, and security of all GCP resources.
- Participate in capacity planning and resource forecasting.
- Evaluate current applications and data to effectively migrate, refactor or rebuild into GCP.
- Monitoring & Alerting:

- Implement and manage comprehensive monitoring solutions (e.g., Cloud Monitoring, Prometheus, Grafana) to track system performance, resource utilization, and application health.
- Configure and manage alerting mechanisms to proactively identify and resolve issues.
- Analyze logs and metrics to identify trends, troubleshoot problems, and optimize performance.
- Maintenance & Operations:

- Perform regular system updates, patching, and security hardening on GCP instances and services.
- Manage user access and permissions using IAM best practices.
- Develop and maintain automation scripts for routine operational tasks.
- Implement and test disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
- Cost Management & Billing Tracking:
- Monitor GCP resource consumption and identify opportunities for cost optimization.
- Track and report on GCP billing and expenditure, providing insights and recommendations for efficiency.
- Work closely with finance and project teams to ensure accurate allocation of cloud costs.
- Troubleshooting & Support:

- Provide expert-level support for GCP-related issues, troubleshooting complex problems and implementing effective solutions.
- Collaborate with development and other IT teams to ensure seamless application deployment and operation.
- Communicate intricate cloud architectures, security policies, and performance metrics into understandable terms for colleagues and business stakeholders.
- Security & Compliance:

- Implement and enforce security best practices within the GCP environment.
- Integrate GCP authentication with existing sign-on solutions.
- Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and internal policies.
- Documentation:

- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of GCP infrastructure, configurations, and procedures.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
- GCP Certification: Must hold a valid Google Cloud Certified Professional Cloud Engineer or Google Cloud Certified Associate Cloud Engineer certification.
- Proven experience (2+ years) as a Systems Administrator or similar role, with a strong focus on cloud platforms.
- In-depth hands-on experience with core GCP services (Compute Engine, VPC, Cloud Storage, Cloud SQL, Cloud Monitoring, Cloud IAM).
- Strong understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, VPN, Firewalls).
- Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation.
- Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker) and orchestration tools (Kubernetes/GKE).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with GitLab for version control, CI/CD pipelines, and project management.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform.
- Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools beyond native GCP offerings (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack).
- Experience with database administration (SQL, NoSQL).
- Experience with user federation (Keycloak)
- Knowledge of security best practices in cloud environments.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
