Position Overview:
The Men's Golf Designer is responsible for the entire creative and technical development process, spanning from initial concept to final construction. This role requires an innovative designer with expertise in performance apparel, who can handle all product categories, from knits and wovens to outerwear. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative and proactive partner, working cross-functionally to bring new ideas to life.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the full development process, from initial sketches to the final sample.
- Design and execute across all product categories, including cut & sew knits, sweaters, tops, bottoms, and outerwear.
- Conduct market research to identify trends, new performance fabrics, color forecasting, and opportunities to evolve existing products.
- Work with merchandising to develop a collection aligned with the seasonal line plan, meeting business goals for style count and performance across main and specialty lines (e.g., Penguin Premium).
- Create detailed sketches using Adobe Illustrator, communicating fabric ideas and trends.
- Collaborate with technical design, sourcing, graphics/trim teams, and print team throughout the development process.
- Approve fabrics and conduct fittings.
- Act as the primary point of contact with factories, providing clear direction on finishes, construction, and enhancements.
- Present seasonal trends and the finalized line to upper management, sales, and external customers.
- Provide accurate product details to Product Development to ensure proper PLM documentation and the creation of comprehensive, production-ready tech packs.
- Some travel may be required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in fashion design or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a corporate apparel design environment.
- Demonstrated expertise in development, with a portfolio showcasing strong creative and innovative skills.
- Experience designing performance or sportswear and knowledge of technical fabrics is a must.
- Experience in Menswear.
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, including Illustrator.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with 3D Browzwear or Netgraphic.
- Direct experience in the golf or performance sportswear industry.
- Knowledge of the latest fabric technologies, including moisture-wicking, stretch, and other performance enhancements.
