Summary
The Vice President of Sales, Green Grass Golf, is a strategic and visionary leader responsible for all sales activities and revenue generation within the on-course retail channel (pro shops, country clubs, and golf resorts) for Perry Ellis International's portfolio of golf apparel brands (e.g., Callaway, PGA TOUR, Original Penguin, Grand Slam). This executive will own the P&L for the Green Grass channel, setting the sales strategy, managing a national team of independent and/or in-house sales representatives, and cultivating high-level relationships with key accounts and buying groups to achieve aggressive growth targets.
Key Responsibilities
1. Sales Strategy & Leadership
- Develop and Execute Strategy: Formulate and implement a comprehensive, multi-year sales strategy for the Green Grass channel that aligns with the overall corporate growth objectives for each brand in the golf portfolio.
- Revenue Accountability: Own the Green Grass P&L, managing budgets, forecasting monthly/quarterly/annual sales, and driving consistent year-over-year revenue and margin growth.
- Market Penetration: Identify and aggressively pursue new business opportunities, increase brand penetration across all major domestic markets, and secure key accounts within top-tier golf clubs and resorts.
- Brand Alignment: Collaborate closely with Brand/Product Management, Merchandising, and Marketing teams to ensure the product line, pricing, and promotional strategies meet the unique needs of the Green Grass customer.
2. Team & Territory Management
- Lead the Sales Team: Recruit, train, mentor, and motivate a high-performing national team of sales representatives (internal and/or commissioned independent reps).
- Performance Management: Set clear sales targets (quotas), territory goals, and key performance indicators (KPIs) for the sales team and manage the compensation/commission structure.
- Sales Operations: Oversee the entire sales cycle, from pre-book to at-once business, ensuring efficient order fulfillment, inventory alignment, and superior customer service.
3. Account Management & Relationship Building
- Key Account Cultivation: Build and maintain executive-level relationships with major Green Grass accounts, buying groups, and key distributors to secure top-tier placement and strategic partnerships.
- Market Expertise: Act as the voice of the Green Grass customer internally, providing crucial feedback on product performance, competitive activity, and market trends.
- Trade Shows & Events: Lead the company's presence at key industry events, including the PGA Merchandise Show and regional buying shows, to drive sales and enhance brand visibility.
4. Financial & Operational Oversight
- Forecasting & Reporting: Provide accurate and timely sales forecasts, pipeline reports, and business analysis to the executive leadership team.
- CRM/Data Management: Ensure the effective use of CRM and sales analytics tools to track performance, manage the pipeline, and make data-driven decisions.
- Margin Protection: Strategize pricing, discount, and inventory management policies to maximize gross margin and minimize excess inventory exposure.
Qualifications
- Experience: 10+ years of progressive sales experience in the apparel or sporting goods industry, with a minimum of 5 years in a senior leadership role (Director or VP level).
- Green Grass Expertise: Deep and proven experience leading sales within the specialized Green Grass Golf channel is non-negotiable. Existing relationships with key golf buyers and buying groups across the U.S.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field; MBA is a plus.
- Leadership: Demonstrated success in building, managing, and motivating a field-based sales team (independent representatives preferred).
- Business Acumen: Strong financial acumen with experience owning a P&L, developing budgets, and managing complex commission structures.
- Travel: Ability to travel extensively (up to 50-75%) for market visits, sales meetings, trade shows, and account management.
