SUMMARY: 

The  Assistant Technical Designer provides support  in managing the technical design process for the brand(s) from prototype to production delivery  while ensuring  it stays true to design's vision. Responsible for assisting in the day to day functions of the Technical Design Department. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate in maintaining consistency of the technical design and product creation processes. 
  • Evaluate Prototype, Fit, PPS and TOP samples for measurement, fit and construction accuracy and quality according to brand standards. 
  • Prep samples for fittings following fit meeting schedules
  • Attend fit sessions with  Technical Design, Design & PD teams to develop brand aesthetic, silhouette and proportion for the assigned categories.
  • Accurately note fit comments during live model and virtual fittings to support the post fit sample evaluation and corrections communication with vendors & factories. 
  • Work with Technical Design/Product Development & Design teams to make sure drawings, specs are complete and accurate.
  • Assists/provides technical assistance and support to vendors/contractors/customers/agents.
  • Collaborates with team members and  business partners to obtain clear direction and consensus to ensure Brand consistency in design aesthetic, fit and construction from vendor to vendor across all styles within a category
  • Ensure calendar milestone deliverables are met
  • Escalate issues when necessary and assists in  providing  root cause analysis, fact finding and possible solutions. 
  • Track workload deliverables, populate sample shipment and deadlines data in the departmental tracking tools. 
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
  • Files samples in an organized location for easy retrieval/reference.
  • Build excellent working relationships with cross functional partners in Design, Merchandising, Sourcing and Product Development as well as overseas offices and Direct vendors. 

SKILLS: 

  • Proficient with Google Drive/Applications or related software.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills, sense of urgency and attention to detail & problem solving skills.
  • Ability to organize time effectively to meet various, strict deadlines. With an adept ability to set or shift priorities, plans to meet overlapping deadlines
  • Knowledge of apparel and construction 
  • General knowledge of pattern making and grading.
  • General knowledge of apparel production process.
  • Basic understanding in creating technical specification packages.
  • Knowledge of computer software programs: i.e. PLM, Illustrator, Optitex, Photoshop, Browzwear, Clo.
  • Dedicated team player

REQUIREMENTS: 

  • B.A. Apparel Design, Technical Design or Apparel Production
  • 1-2+ years experience in technical design and/or pattern making
  • Proficient in PLM, Word, Excel, Illustrator

Salary offered will be commensurate with experience. For this New York based position, the expected base salary is $25.00 - $32.00/hour.
