As the Assistant Designer for Callaway Men’s, you will manage the administrative and follow-up aspects of the product design process, ensuring timely and accurate execution of the line from initial concept to final production handoff. You will actively support the design team's creative vision by preparing technical sketches, managing component approvals, and executing technical fitting directives. The ideal candidate will blend a passion for premium men's athletic/lifestyle apparel with an eagerness to leverage cutting-edge design technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design & Conceptual Development: Actively participate in the creative process for Callaway Men’s. Provide innovative recommendations regarding seasonal themes, line edits, fabrication, and new concepts that align with market trends and the brand’s business strategy.
  • Technical Sketching & Specification: Own the precise design details of products. Responsible for preparing, updating, and maintaining accurate technical sketches (utilizing Adobe Illustrator) and detailed specifications.
  • Fittings & Execution: Lead or actively participate in technical design fittings, clearly defining and communicating go-forward directives to ensure fit updates are executed accurately and on time.
  • Design Package Completion: Ensure the product design package is complete, accurate, and handed off on schedule to the Product Development team, Technical Design department, and vendors for the creation of prototypes and salesmen samples.
  • Approval & Production Readiness: Monitor and manage the approval process for material and color components, including lab-dips, knit-downs, strike-offs, and handlooms. Responsible for the final approval of sales samples to ensure the garment is fully production-ready.
  • Product Consistency: Assist in ensuring that the product design is cohesive, trend-relevant, and aligned with Callaway’s established performance and lifestyle aesthetic.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university with a major in Fashion Design is required.
  • Technical Skills: * Working knowledge and mastery of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop are required for creating technical sketches.
    • Familiarity with or a strong ability to learn advanced design technology and systems (e.g., PLM systems, Ned Graphics).
    • A strong willingness and aptitude to learn and implement new computer technology, specifically 3-D design software.
  • Design Acumen: High level of creativity with a true passion for design. Possesses strong conceptual skills with a thorough knowledge of men's silhouettes, performance fabrication, colorways, sewing techniques, graphics, and trim.
  • Color & Taste Level: Superior color intuition and taste level. Excellent ability to identify, combine, and approve colors effectively within a cohesive collection.
  • Spatial Visualization: The ability to think three-dimensionally and visualize the final garment from a swatch or sketch to the human body.
  • Communication: Strong presentation and verbal/written communication skills to clearly convey design directives and influence cross-functional partners.
