Position Title: Senior Salesforce Solutions Architect 

Location: Boston . MA 

Reports To: Executive VP Information Technology

 

Overview

As the EVP, Information Technology at Per Scholas, I recognize the critical need to enhance our Salesforce instance to dynamically respond to evolving business needs, especially with our strategic pillars focused on launching and accelerating careers, powering businesses, and sustaining an agile organization. To achieve this, we need a seasoned professional who can elevate our Salesforce capabilities beyond administration, focusing on strategic architecture and development. This new role will be instrumental in supporting our team of experienced Salesforce Admins, guiding them towards more advanced solutions and ensuring our Salesforce platform drives maximum value across the organization.

 

Position Summary:

The Salesforce Senior Solutions Architect will play a pivotal role in optimizing, extending, and transforming Per Scholas's Salesforce instance to meet complex and evolving business requirements. This individual will serve as a technical lead, providing strategic guidance and hands-on development expertise to enhance the platform's capabilities, integrate with other critical systems, and ensure scalable, secure, and sustainable solutions. This role will work closely with our existing team of Salesforce Administrators (who typically have 3-5 years of experience), mentoring them in advanced Salesforce development practices, architectural principles, and complex problem-solving. The ideal candidate is passionate about leveraging technology to deliver empathetic and joyful user experiences, unlocking actionable insights from data, and driving organizational goals through strategic technology solutions. This position reports to the EVP, Information Technology.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Salesforce Architecture and Solution Design: 

    • Deliver strategic, technical, and thought leadership across the organization to maximize the value of the Salesforce platform and related integrations.
    • Design, architect, and implement complex Salesforce solutions, including custom applications, integrations, and data models, ensuring alignment with Per Scholas's strategic objectives and long-term success.
    • Conduct technical assessments of existing Salesforce instances and provide recommendations for enhancements, optimization, and technical debt reduction.
    • Apply system architecture best practices to increase performance, reduce risk, and ensure the scalability and maintainability of the Salesforce platform.

Advanced Salesforce Development and Customization: 

    • Design and implement robust integrations between Salesforce and other internal/external systems using various integration patterns and tools.
    • Optimize system performance and implement new logic for complex business processes, such as case metric calculations or reporting automation.
    • Leverage expertise in Salesforce data management best practices to ensure data integrity, unlock actionable insights, and support evolving data strategy.

Mentorship and Team Enablement: 

    • Provide advanced technical guidance, coaching, and mentorship to a team of experienced Salesforce Administrators, enhancing their development skills and understanding of complex Salesforce features.
    • Lead by example in adopting best practices for Salesforce development, testing, deployment, and documentation.
    • Develop training materials and conduct sessions for the Salesforce admin team and end-users to increase adoption, improve user experience, and foster a deeper understanding of the platform.
    • Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the Salesforce team, encouraging exploration of new features and technologies.

Cross-Functional Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement: 

    • Partner closely with business stakeholders, program teams, and other IT departments to gather requirements, translate business needs into technical specifications, and ensure solutions meet organizational goals.
    • Facilitate discussions and lead discovery efforts to define objectives, scope, and goals for Salesforce-related initiatives.
    • Act as a trusted advisor to Per Scholas leaders on Salesforce capabilities and strategic technology roadmaps.
    • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences, managing expectations and fostering strong collaborative relationships.

Continuous Improvement and Innovation: 

    • Stay current with Salesforce releases, new features, and industry best practices, evaluating and recommending their adoption to maximize platform value.
    • Identify opportunities to streamline data points, processes, and user experiences to reduce clicks, effort, and time spent on mundane tasks for our teams.
    • Actively participate in the Salesforce Trailblazer Community, bringing external insights and solutions back to Per Scholas.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field; or equivalent practical experience.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience in Salesforce development, architecture, and administration, with a strong emphasis on programmatic solutions and complex integrations.
  • Proven experience working with and mentoring Salesforce administrators 
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver empathetic and joyful user experiences with technology.
  • Expertise in Salesforce customization (Apex, Visualforce, Lightning Components (Aura and LWC), SOQL, SOSL).
  • Solid understanding of data modeling, database design, and data management best practices within Salesforce.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Passion for Per Scholas's mission and a commitment to economic mobility through technology training.

Preferred Certifications (or equivalent experience):

  • Salesforce Certified Platform Developer I & II
  • Salesforce Certified Application Architect
  • Salesforce Certified System Architect (or working towards)
  • Salesforce Certified Sales Cloud Consultant 
  • Salesforce Certified Nonprofit Cloud Consultant (highly desirable given Per Scholas's mission)
  • Salesforce Certified Platform App Builder 
  • Salesforce Certified Administrator 
  • Salesforce Certified Business Analyst 
  • Other relevant Salesforce Designer certifications (e.g., Data Architecture and Management Designer, Integration Architecture Designer, Development Lifecycle and Deployment Designer).

Desired Skills:

  • Experience in the non-profit sector or with educational technology systems.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies.
  • Proficiency with version control systems (e.g., Git).
  • Experience with declarative automation tools (Flow, Process Builder, Workflow Rules).
  • Familiarity with Salesforce DX.

Compensation 

For this role specifically, the salary range is $145,000 - $165,000. The salary difference is typically determined by several factors, including the geography in which the selected candidate resides and alignment with qualifications and experience.
