WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Per Scholas is seeking a Cybersecurity Instructor who combines deep technical expertise with a passion for teaching, coaching, and developing career-ready technology professionals. The ideal candidate will deliver rigorous, hands-on instruction in cybersecurity fundamentals, security operations, endpoint security, and ethical hacking while managing an inclusive, high-accountability learning environment. This role is responsible for monitoring learner progress, providing actionable feedback, preparing learners for industry-recognized certifications (including CompTIA Security+ (SY0-701) and CISSP), and supporting successful course completion, certification readiness, and graduation. Candidates should have relevant cybersecurity certifications, experience teaching adult learners, and practical expertise with cybersecurity labs, cloud security, security operations, endpoint technologies, and current industry tools.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Lead engaging, lab-first instruction across cybersecurity fundamentals, security operations, endpoint security, and ethical hacking; guide learners through hands-on scenarios using current cybersecurity tools and environments.
  • Prepare learners for industry-recognized certifications, including CompTIA Security+ (SY0-701) and CISSP, while connecting certification concepts to real-world cybersecurity practices.
  • Manage learner progress from foundational skills through advanced application, providing timely feedback, targeted intervention, office hours, and coaching to support course completion, certification readiness, and graduation.
  • Mentor cybersecurity projects and capstones from scoping and threat analysis through implementation, testing, documentation, and employer-ready demonstrations.
  • Serve as a cybersecurity subject-matter expert by informing curriculum, labs, assessments, and certification alignment while staying current on emerging threats, technologies, and industry practices.
  • Collaborate with instructional staff to continuously improve labs, rubrics, learner outcomes, and classroom practices while maintaining an inclusive, high-expectation learning environment.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO US

Technical Expertise

  • Demonstrated professional expertise across cybersecurity fundamentals, network security, identity and access management, security operations, endpoint security, vulnerability management, and incident response.
  • Strong knowledge of the domains covered by the CompTIA Security+ SY0-701 certification exam and demonstrated ability to prepare learners for certification success.
  • Strong knowledge of the domains covered by the CISSP examination and demonstrated ability to teach and prepare experienced learners for CISSP exam readiness.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach ethical hacking and penetration-testing concepts, including reconnaissance, scanning, vulnerability identification, exploitation, web application security, and defensive techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach endpoint security, including endpoint protection, hardening, monitoring, detection, response, and remediation.
  • Experience working with cybersecurity tools, platforms, and lab environments such as SIEM, EDR/XDR, vulnerability scanners, network analysis tools, identity platforms, firewalls, and security testing frameworks.
  • Working knowledge of cloud security concepts and at least one major cloud platform, such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Understanding of current cybersecurity threats, attack techniques, defensive strategies, and security best practices.
  • Ability to translate complex cybersecurity concepts into practical, accessible, and job-relevant learning experiences.

Instructional Skills

  • 1–3+ years teaching, mentoring, or training in technical subjects.
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex AI concepts to diverse learners.
  • Experience guiding learners through portfolio projects or capstones.

Professional & Personal Qualities

  • Current industry-recognized cybersecurity certification(s), such as CISSP, CompTIA Security+, CySA+, PenTest+, CEH, or equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field preferred; equivalent professional experience and industry certifications may be considered.
  • 3+ years of professional cybersecurity experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to expanding access to technology careers for career-ready talent.
  • Collaborative, adaptable, detail-oriented, and growth-minded, with strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Comfortable working in a fully remote instructional environment and using learning management systems, collaboration platforms, and virtual classroom technology.

Compensation 

For this role specifically, we are targeting a salary range of $75,000 - $80,000 where the difference in salary is typically determined by several factors, including the geography in which the selected candidate resides and alignment with qualifications and experience.

Holidays & PTO: Full-Time Per Scholas team members enjoy over 40 days of paid time off each year through a mix of holidays, vacation, and sick/personal time! All employees are eligible for Holiday pay upon hire (a total of 22 holidays annually, including a week off for Independence day and a week before the New Year). Full-Time Benefits Eligible employees also receive 80 Wellness Hours to use for Sick, Safe, or Personal reasons and accrue Vacation at a rate of 8 hours at the beginning of every month, supporting rest, recharge, and work-life balance. Vacation accruals increase with tenure. Part-time employees are afforded time off on a prorated basis and in accordance with local requirements. 

Comprehensive Medical Coverage: Benefit eligible employees can choose from multiple medical plans through Cigna or Kaiser Permanente (where available), with options to fit your needs. Eligible employees also have access to a Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) that reimburses eligible out-of-pocket expenses, up to $4,000 for individuals and $8,000 for families.

Dental and Vision Insurance: Eligible employees can select from two dental plan options and a vision plan. Employees who waive medical coverage receive employer paid dental and vision premiums.

Retirement Savings: 401(k) plan with a current 100% employer match on contributions up to 6%, eligible employees are offered entry and full vesting after 90 days with the company.

Parental Leave: Eligible employees are offered up to 6 weeks of 100% paid parental leave to support employees as they welcome a new child and bond with their family.
