Director, Assistant Controller
At Personalis, we are transforming the active management of cancer through breakthrough personalized testing. We aim to drive a new paradigm for cancer management, guiding care from biopsy through the life of the patient. Our highly sensitive assays combine tumor-and-normal profiling with proprietary algorithms to deliver advanced insights even as cancer evolves over time. Our products are designed to detect minimal residual disease (MRD) and recurrence at the earliest timepoints, enable selection of targeted therapies based on ultra-comprehensive genomic profiling, and enhance biomarker strategy for drug development. Personalis is based in Fremont, California.
Position Summary:
This is a hands on position requiring a broad knowledge of accounting and finance to create policies and procedures that keep pace with the growth of the company. This position reports to VP – Corporate Controller and will be located at our headquarters in Fremont, CA. This is a regular, full-time, exempt position.
This position will be responsible for:
- All month end close activities, including invoicing and AR collections, treasury and payroll
- Enhance existing financial processes to drive efficiency
- Assisting with month-end and quarter-end reporting
- Ensuring compliance with SOX
Hybrid - Days Onsite: Mon/Tues
Key Responsibilities:
- Take the lead in coordinating month-end, quarter-end and year-end closing process. Ensure accuracy of financial statements in accordance with GAAP and compliance to internal policies. Hands-on ability to ensure all journal entries and account reconciliations are completed timely and accurately.
- Responsible for all aspects of accounting, reporting, and compliance, including accurate and timely transaction processing: G/L, financial reporting, disbursements, sales commissions, accounts payable, payroll, expense reporting, revenue, accounts receivable, tax filings
- Interface with management in various departments, including sales, operations, IT and Software/Engineering service for GL completeness.
- Preparation of monthly/quarterly financial and management reports that include variance analysis of actual against prior month/quarter/year
- Manage the year-end audit processes with external auditors and assist in collation and preparation of audit schedules and PBC requests
- Manage all aspects of accounting to ensure SOX compliance, including maintaining SOX controls document and facilitating SOX testing process with the internal and external auditors
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required, Master’s degree a plus.
- CPA desirable.
- 5-7 years of progressive industry experience in a U.S. public company.
- 3-5 years of public accounting experience, preferably with a Big 4 firm.
- Proficiency in Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Familiarity with various ERP platforms, preferably QAD

The hiring range for this position is $210,000 to $250,000 per year, which may factor in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. Our full-time regular positions also include an annual performance-based bonus (or a sales incentive plan) and long-term incentive units (equity) provided as part of our compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
