About the Role:

IPSY is looking for a legal leader to join our team as Director, Assistant General Counsel. In this role, you will be a key partner to our marketing, customer care, and technology teams, helping them move fast while keeping the business compliant and protected. You will take ownership of a broad and engaging portfolio spanning intellectual property, privacy, consumer protection, marketing and promotions, and commercial contracts. You will also assist in shaping our legal infrastructure, including building repeatable processes, playbooks, and frameworks that enable the business to operate efficiently and with appropriate risk tolerance. This is a high-impact, highly visible role where you will work closely with our executive leadership team and contribute
meaningfully to the strategic direction of the legal function. If you are a pragmatic, business-minded attorney who has built a career working on consumer-facing brands–particularly in beauty, personal care or subscription commerce–navigating the intersection of marketing, technology, and regulation, then we want to hear from you! This role reports to the General Counsel and Corporate Secretary and is fully remote from any state in which IPSY is authorized to hire.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Own the legal review of marketing and promotional content, ensuring all consumer-facing communications are compliant with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Serve as IPSY's subject matter expert on subscription commerce law, including advising on compliance with FTC rules, state auto-renewal laws and emerging regulations. Partner with customer care and product teams to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as the primary legal partner for our influencer program, including drafting and maintaining contract templates and a playbook for the influencer team, advising on influencer partnerships and activations and providing day-to-day guidance on compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Advise on intellectual property matters, including trademark protection and enforcement, brand licensing, and content clearance, helping the business protect and grow its IP portfolio.
  • Advise on FDA requirements as they apply to IPSY's curated product assortment, partnering cross-functionally with the merchandising and product teams.
  • Lead privacy compliance efforts, partnering with the tech and product teams to ensure data practices align with applicable privacy laws and regulations across the consumer lifecycle. This includes advising on data practices specific to IPSY's subscription and e-commerce data flows, including consent frameworks, data minimization, and compliance with CCPA/CPRA and other state privacy laws.
  • Advise on legal considerations related to IPSY's technology and AI initiatives, building governance frameworks as the regulatory landscape evolves.
  • Provide legal support for the IPSY Mexico business, advising on local regulatory requirements, commercial arrangements, and consumer-facing matters as the business continues to grow in the market.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a range of commercial contracts, providing practical legal support that enables the business to move quickly and confidently.
  • Manage outside counsel relationships, including selecting and overseeing external legal partners, managing budgets, and ensuring efficient use of outside resources.

What We Are Looking For:

  • J.D. degree and active bar membership in good standing
  • 10+ years of legal experience with a mix of law firm and in-house counsel roles preferred
  • Deep knowledge of consumer protection law, advertising and marketing regulations, and subscription commerce, with hands-on experience advising teams on compliant go-to-market strategies.
  • Solid background in intellectual property, privacy, and commercial contracts, with the ability to manage all three areas simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability to serve as a true business partner: someone who understands the commercial context, gives practical and direct advice for non-lawyer audiences and helps teams find solutions rather than just identifying risks.
  • Experience managing outside counsel and legal spend, with a track record of building efficient, cost-effective relationships with external partners.
  • Excellent judgment, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Comfortable advising in a fast-paced, high-growth environment and in the face of ambiguity—IPSY moves fast and the legal function should enable speed, not slow it down.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive base salary & bonus program
  • Medical, dental & vision insurance
  • 401(k) plan with company match
  • Paid Time Off
  • Work from home flexibility
  • Free IPSY Extra subscription
  • Learning & development programs
