Translational Sciences is the global laboratory and biospecimens business unit within Precision for Medicine that was purpose built to support the development of the next-generation of advanced therapies through a global laboratory platform that provides full-service solutions for biomarker assay development and testing and biospecimen sample management.  The business has over 600 employees located across the globe with 6 labs in US and Europe.

 

The Role

Reporting into the Corporate CFO, the SVP Finance, Translational Sciences is the finance business partner to the President, Translational Sciences and Translational Sciences leadership team. The SVP Finance role is responsible for driving, managing, and developing the business unit finance function, including owning the full P&L, reporting & analysis, and realizing continued global growth and profitability targets. 

This is a highly visible leadership role and key member of the finance organization and one that will interface broadly with the Precision’s executive leadership team. This person will serve as a strategic partner and change agent, enabling business strategy and value creation.  This position requires the person to be an exceptional business partner to the Translational Sciences leadership team, responsible for challenging and supporting the business, increasing Translational Sciences ability to anticipate business issues and identify opportunities, and driving decision-making through diligent financial management.  The successful candidate must have the ability to function at a broad-based, strategic level while being capable of driving detailed, hands-on and tactical execution.  The SVP, Finance will lead the business unit finance team with the ability to influence group finance and other cross-functional teams including Sales, Operations, Project Management, and Research.

 

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Strategic thought partner to the business with a focus on driving growth and value creation by understanding revenue, cost drivers and margins of business. Extended member of Translational Sciences Leadership Team and act as change agent to drive profitable growth.
  • Support business execution through active participation in key business strategy decisions including organic and inorganic Investments. Identify complex financial and business risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Lead the core financial planning and review process, including forecasting, planning, budgeting and analysis working closely with key stakeholders across the organization. Summarize and contextualize financial results on monthly, quarterly, annual and ad hoc basis.
  • Work with Controllership/Finance Shared Services to review and ensure the accuracy of financial reports. Continuously seek new ways to leverage business data to offer fresh insights and aid decision making.
  • Conduct advanced financial analyses to support ad-hoc requests utilizing complex scenario planning to drive growth initiatives and improve business decisions. Translate business strategies, initiatives and projects effectively into financial modeling.
  • Provide thought leadership in creation and enhancement of key performance indicators and oversee the institutionalizing and ingraining of KPIs across the organization to drive accountability.
  • Proactively looking for opportunities, identifying efficiencies and driving change in the Translational business and financial operations
  • Form strong relationships and communication channels across the global organization; investing significant time with the cross-functional teams to foster a culture of collaboration and partnership to continuously build and enhance infrastructure, process, and systems
  • Lead through change and support adoption of technology for stronger data governance, automated reporting, and scaling business to greater insights / predictions. Support GenAI initiatives to increase efficiency.
  • Develop knowledge of market and business unit dynamics to identify opportunities to enhance pricing models and contracting structures

 

Candidate Profile:

The successful candidate will be an accomplished “player-coach” Finance Leader with an extensive track record of progressive experience and demonstrated ability to develop and execute operational strategic plans that achieve business goals and can successfully support profitable revenue growth on a global scale in a matrixed organization. S/he will be a hands-on leader who is able to navigate to the lowest level of detail to identify value creation opportunities and solve complex challenges.  Experience improving business operations, project profitability, utilization, and realizing margin growth is critical.      

This individual will be an action-oriented, lead-by-example leader with clear energy and drive to win.  She/He will have the capability to empower her/his team to achieve world-class performance while building a culture of continuous improvement within the organization.

 

Essential Attributes Include:

  • 15 years plus of financial experience in a complex and/or global corporate finance environment. Relevant industry experience required in Life Sciences services or laboratories.
  • Highly talented individual that embodies all elements of high-performing culture: focused, accountable, engaged.
  • Outstanding strategic, numerical and analytical skills and the ability to lead the analysis of various complex financial and operational metrics
  • Ability to translate and effectively communicate various financial scenarios and business drivers to a variety of stakeholders
  • Strong business acumen that enables the individual to manage a wide range of strategic and tactical finance initiatives
  • A hands-on style with the ability to effectively resolve problems and complex issues and with the confidence to intervene and challenge the business when appropriate
  • Strong focus on process improvement with the ability to initiate and drive change
  • Demonstrated capability to control a thorough planning, forecasting and budgeting process
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills to effectively delegate and develop a higher performing and professional team on an ongoing basis
  • International experience /exposure
