PHENOGY is introducing sodium-ion battery energy storage to the U.S. market—a safer, more sustainable alternative designed for grid-scale and long-duration applications. This is a rare opportunity to create a market before it fully exists.
We are hiring a Head of Sales and Business Development to serve as the catalyst for PHENOGY’s North American growth—from early adopters to scaled commercial integrations.
This is not a traditional sales leadership role. It is a foundational, entrepreneurial role for someone who wants to architect growth, build a sales team and see their impact reflected directly in the company’s success.
The Role
Reporting to the Managing Director of North America, this position will architect PHENOGY’s U.S. commercial engine. Your innovative thinking will shape how PHENOGY creates revenue—owning opportunity creation and go-to-market structure for strategically identified target geographies and market segments. As the company scales, this role will scale with it, driven by the value you create and the results you deliver. The position will require 50%+ travel with occasional travel to Europe.
What You’ll Do
Market Creation & Go-to-Market Leadership
- Lead PHENOGY’s North American market entry and expansion strategy
- Position sodium-ion technologies clearly and credibly against current dominant technology and emerging alternatives
- Define a phased go-to-market strategy that captures early market share in low-barrier segments, then scales into adjacent opportunities
Strategic Business Development
- Originate, structure, and close high-impact early adopter programs
- Lead complex, consultative sales cycles involving technical, regulatory, and commercial stakeholders
- Build a focused, high-quality pipeline aligned to long-term market leadership
Sales Organization Build-Out
- Design the structure of PHENOGY’s North American sales organization
- Recruit, hire, and lead technical sales and commercial roles, including pre-sales / solutions-oriented talent
- Serve as a hands-on leader to sales team members, responsible for attracting and retaining top talent while building scalable processes, performance expectations, and a culture that reflects company values
Ecosystem & Cross-Functional Leadership
- Build trusted relationships across IPPs, EPCs, integrators, and policymakers
- Act as the primary commercial bridge between the U.S. market and European headquarters
- Translate market feedback into actionable insights for product, pricing, and commercialization strategy
- Exemplify excellence in customer relationships, driving long-term customer satisfaction, loyalty, and retention through trust-based, value-driven engagement
Who You Are
- A builder and catalyst
- Deeply fluent in renewable energy, BESS, solar, distributed energy systems or power systems
- Highly experienced in direct sales models
- Comfortable selling vision and roadmaps ahead of full commercialization
- Motivated by ownership and impact, with a mindset oriented toward expandable opportunities—driving growth within accounts and across adjacent ecosystems
Experience
- 10+ years in business development, sales leadership, or market expansion in renewable energy,
- Proven success launching new markets and products in North America
- Track record of building and leading sales teams, including technical sales roles
- Experience closing complex, multi-stakeholder six- and seven-figure opportunities
- Existing, transferable relationships within the U.S. energy ecosystem
- Experience working with international teams and global headquarters
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience in the energy storage industry
- Experience thriving in high-growth startup environments
- An MBA from a top-tier US business school
- An established professional network that can be integrated to support and enhance business opportunities
Compensation
Base Salary (commensurate on experience)
$165,000 – $220,000
Incentives
- Performance-based bonus tied to customer acquisition, pipeline quality, and market traction
- Long-term equity participation aligned with company growth and value creation
