DESCRIPTION

The Phillies are seeking a qualified English Language Learner (ELL) and High School instructor to teach small groups of baseball players at our Dominican Republic Academy. This instructor will lead ELL classes and help with high school courses (language arts, history, etc.), following our internal curriculum. Classes are typically held at the academy in the afternoon between 3:30-6:30 PM. With classes and additional paid planning time, the instructor can expect around 12-15 hours per week and to work within the hours of 3:30 and 6:30 PM. A monthly gas stipend of $150 USD will also be provided.

The Life Skills & Education program at the Dominican Republic Academy is the foundation of each player's educational journey within our system. It provides a comprehensive educational experience that supports our player’s development both on and off the field. Through this program, players receive essential English language instruction, life skills training, high school education, and cultural competency, all of which help them navigate their baseball careers and life in the U.S. The department plays a vital role in ensuring players are equipped for success at every level, with a strong focus on language development and personal growth. We are proud of our successful and progressive Life Skills and Education (LSE) program. We have a strong full time staff both in the US and in the DR. Our part time staff plays an essential role with specific subject matter expertise and bringing a focus to creating an interactive and effective educational environment. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Teach English and high school courses to baseball players, focusing on language skills (speaking, listening, reading, writing) and cultural acclimation.
  • Develop creative and engaging lesson plans that promote language acquisition and support students’ progress in high school subjects.
  • Incorporate technology in the classroom to enhance learning and provide tools for continued educational growth.
  • Build strong relationships with students to foster a safe, dynamic, and supportive classroom environment.
  • Collaborate with the Education Coordinator and DR Lead Teachers to ensure classes align with program goals and standards.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, ELL, TESOL, or related field with TESOL/ELL certification
  • Minimum of 2-3 years’ teaching experience
  • Bilingual (English / Spanish) 

RECOMMENDED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Experience teaching non-traditional, adult, or out-of-school youth students
  • Experience teaching occupation-specific language skills a plus
  • Knowledge of baseball a plus
  • Strong communication skills
