Position Overview:

The Philadelphia Phillies are committed to supporting the ongoing education and development of both our players and coaches. Our Life Skills and Education (LSE) Department plays a key role in supporting Minor League players and coaches, helping them excel both professionally and personally through language education, secondary education, life skills, and continued education. Recognizing that approximately 30% or more of our players are Spanish-speaking, the Phillies take great pride in offering a world-class LSE program. 

In collaboration with the Assistant Director of Life Skills and Education as well as the Lead Teachers, the associate teacher will gain valuable hands-on experience in a sports-focused educational environment, making a meaningful impact on the personal and professional growth of our athletes. The primary focus of this role will be leading English and Spanish language classes for players and staff. The right person for this position will be excited and willing to work non-traditional hours. During baseball season our players play six days a week and classes and life skills activities often take place during off field hours.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach English and Spanish language classes for players at varying levels, supporting both group and individual instruction.
  • Work with the Lead Teacher and LSE Assistant Director to plan lessons for classes that align with our ELL indicators, prepare additional out of class practice assignments, and communicate player progress. 
  • Support and facilitate life skills workshops, helping players develop key personal and professional skills for life on and off the field.
  • Support and facilitate life skills activities away from the ballpark, helping players develop key personal and professional skills.
  • Assist with administrative tasks, such as tracking student progress, maintaining attendance records, and preparing educational materials.
  • Provide support to players enrolled in the high school program. 
  • Brainstorm creative and innovative ways to provide educational opportunities for players outside the classroom. 
  • Collaborate with education staff and coaches to ensure the academic and life skills needs of players are met.
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours, evenings and weekends.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • College degree in a related field.
  • Proficiency in both English and Spanish, with strong communication skills in both languages.
  • Organized and detail-oriented with effective time management skills. 
  • Passionate about education, teaching, and supporting players’ overall baseball development 
  • Experience in teaching, tutoring, or working with athletes is a plus.
  • Must be comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced, sports-focused setting.
  • Demonstrates strong cultural awareness and adaptability (“feel” for the baseball environment).
  • Proactive self-starter with the ability to work independently, anticipating needs and creating solutions.
