Assistant Teacher, Life Skills & Education - DR Academy

Boca Chica, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

Position: Assistant Teacher, Life Skills & Education
Location: Dominican Republic Baseball Academy (Boca Chica)
Job Status: Full-Time

The Philadelphia Phillies are committed to supporting the ongoing education and holistic development of both players and coaches. The Life Skills and Education (LSE) Department plays a critical role in preparing players for success on and off the field through English language learning, high school education, and life skills programming.

In the Dominican Republic, the LSE program serves as a cornerstone of player development, supporting primarily Spanish-speaking players as they navigate education, professional baseball, and personal growth. In collaboration with the DR LSE Coordinator and DR Lead Teachers, the Assistant Teacher will gain hands-on experience in a dynamic, sports-focused educational environment while making a meaningful impact on players’ lives.

The Assistant Teacher will support English language instruction, life skills programming, and high school classes at the academy. The ideal candidate is adaptable, culturally aware, and excited to work non-traditional hours in a fast-paced baseball setting. During the baseball season, players train six days per week, and classes and activities often take place during off-field hours.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with teaching English language classes for players at varying levels at the DR Academy, supporting both group and individual instruction.
  • Teach internal high school courses using the Phillies high school curriculum, with an ability to teach Lengua Española and History and/or support Math and Science instruction.
  • Work closely with Lead Teachers and the DR LSE Coordinator to design English lesson plans aligned with Phillies ELL indicators and program goals.
  • Support Life Skills Lead Teacher on life skills workshops focused on personal, professional, and social development.
  • Support, facilitate, and attend extracurricular activities away from the academy, including off-site educational and enrichment experiences.
  • Participate in, co-chaperone, and help organize Student of the Month outings, cultural excursions, and community service events (at times during non-traditional work hours, including evenings and weekends).
  • Assist with administrative tasks, including tracking student progress, maintaining attendance records, preparing instructional materials, making copies for part-time teachers, and managing education supply inventory.
  • Support the administrative components of the high school program, including maintaining student documentation, completing graduation paperwork, and inputting grades into tracking spreadsheets.
  • Provide academic and organizational support to players enrolled in the high school program.
  • Brainstorm and contribute creative, innovative ideas to expand educational opportunities for players outside the classroom.
  • Collaborate with education staff, coaches, and academy leadership to ensure players’ academic and life skills needs are met.
  • Maintain flexibility to work non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by the baseball schedule.

Qualifications:

  • College degree in education, social sciences, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in both English and Spanish, with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Passion for education and player development, with a genuine interest in supporting young athletes’ growth.
  • Experience teaching, tutoring, mentoring, or working with student-athletes is preferred.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, sports-focused environment with evolving priorities.
  • Demonstrates cultural awareness, adaptability, and a strong “feel” for the baseball academy environment.
  • Proactive self-starter who can work independently, anticipate needs, and contribute solutions.

We are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, age, disability, gender identity, marital or veteran status, or any other protected class.
