The Role
Philo is looking for a Lead Data Scientist (Product & Experimentation) to join our team and help elevate our product analytics and experimentation practice. This role will provide senior leadership in building a world-class experimentation platform, establishing methodological rigor for product analytics, and mentoring our data science team to deliver high-impact analytical solutions that improve the user experience. You have strong opinions about what high-quality experimentation and causal inference look like and are passionate about building products that delight users. You can work across multiple product teams and have a keen sense of how to connect experimentation outcomes to product strategy and user engagement metrics.
Responsibilities:
Set the roadmap and model best practices for product experimentation and A/B testing at Philo
Lead the evolution of our experimentation platform (GrowthBook) and establish gold-standard practices for experiment design, analysis, and interpretation
Partner with product leadership to identify and prioritize high-impact experimentation opportunities across the user journey
Establish and evangelize methodological standards for causal inference and statistical testing
Build frameworks for measuring product feature impact and user engagement metrics
Coach and mentor data scientists on advanced experimentation techniques and product analytics
Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure robust data instrumentation and tracking
Lead complex analytical projects focused on user behavior, content discovery, and platform engagement
Develop self-service experimentation tools and dashboards for product teams
Champion a culture of data-driven product development and continuous testing
Represent the data science team in product strategy and roadmap discussions
Key Qualifications:
10+ years of professional experience in data science/analytics with demonstrated proficiency in Python, SQL, and statistical modeling
3+ years of experience leading experimentation programs or product analytics teams
Deep expertise in experimental design, A/B testing, and causal inference methods
Strong experience with sequential testing, power analysis, and sample size calculations
Proven track record of building and scaling experimentation platforms
Experience with user behavior modeling, funnel analysis, and cohort analytics
Excitement to leverage the latest LLM tools to improve workflows and efficiency.
Experience in building robust data models for product analytics
Experience mentoring data scientists on experimentation best practices
Excellent communication skills with ability to translate statistical concepts to product teams
Strong product sense and ability to connect analytics to user experience outcomes
Experience with modern experimentation platforms and BI dashboarding tools
Expertise in handling common experimentation challenges (network effects, spillover, novelty effects, SMRs)
Nice-to-have:
Experience in media/streaming industry with understanding of viewer engagement metrics and content performance analysis
Experience with multi-armed bandits, contextual bandits, or reinforcement learning approaches
Familiarity with Bayesian methods for experimentation and decision-making
Experience building data products for self-service analytics
Experience with experimentation and feature flagging systems

The Role
Philo is looking for a Lead Data Scientist (Growth & Performance Marketing) to join our team and help elevate our marketing analytics and attribution practice. This role will provide senior leadership in building sophisticated marketing measurement systems, establishing methodological rigor for growth analytics, and coaching our data science team to deliver high-impact solutions that optimize customer acquisition and lifetime value. You have strong opinions about what world-class marketing attribution looks like and are passionate about driving efficient growth. You will work across marketing, finance, and product teams and have a keen sense of how to connect marketing investments to business outcomes and customer value.
Responsibilities:
Set the roadmap and model best practices for marketing and growth sciences at Philo
Lead the development of unified marketing measurement approaches combining Marketing Mix Modeling (MMM), Multi-touch Attribution (MTA), and incrementality testing
Partner with marketing leadership and C-Suite to optimize marketing spend allocation and Return on Ad Spend (RoAS)
Establish and evangelize methodological standards for marketing measurement and causal inference
Build frameworks for Customer Lifetime Value (CLV) modeling and customer acquisition cost (CAC) optimization
Coach and mentor data scientists on advanced attribution techniques and marketing analytics
Develop and maintain marketing attribution models using tools like Robyn and custom solutions
Lead geo-experimentation and matched market testing initiatives
Build self-service dashboards and tools for marketing performance monitoring
Collaborate with finance on budgeting and forecasting models
Champion data-driven decision making in growth strategy and channel optimization
Represent the data science team in marketing strategy and budget planning discussions
Key Qualifications:
10+ years of professional experience in data science/analytics with demonstrated proficiency in Python, SQL, or R and statistical modeling
3+ years of experience leading marketing analytics or growth data science teams
Deep expertise in marketing attribution methodologies (MMM, MTA, incrementality testing)
Excitement to leverage the latest LLM tools to improve workflows and efficiency.
Strong experience with Bayesian methods for hierarchical modeling and ridge regression
Proven track record of building and deploying marketing measurement systems at scale
Experience with customer lifetime value modeling and cohort-based forecasting
Deep experience in building robust data models for marketing analytics

Excellent communication skills with ability to translate complex attribution insights to marketing teams
Strong business acumen with ability to connect marketing metrics to financial outcomes

Experience with propensity modeling and customer segmentation

Senior Machine Learning Engineer (Recommendation Systems)

We are seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to lead our content personalization efforts, shaping experiences that impact millions of users. In this role, you will research, design, and build advanced algorithms and large-scale systems that power Philo’s recommendation engine.
As a senior member of a growing team, you will tackle complex machine learning challenges and collaborate with data science, product, infrastructure, and backend engineering teams to deliver innovative, data-driven personalization solutions. Your work will directly impact content discovery, deepen user engagement, and drive long-term retention.
Responsibilities:
Lead development of recommendation systems: Design, build, and optimize advanced algorithms for SVOD, Live TV, and FAST personalization.
Drive ML innovation at scale: Conduct deep dives into models and system components, ensuring performance, scalability, and robustness across regions and product areas.
Own the ML pipeline: Build and maintain reliable pipelines for data extraction, feature engineering, model training, testing, and deployment.
Collaborate with Product, Data Science & Engineering: Translate product requirements into ML solutions, set clear expectations, and deliver measurable improvements in user engagement.
Advance deep learning in recommendations: Apply frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar to develop state-of-the-art recommendation models.
Experimentation: Conduct rigorous A/B testing and ML experiments to understand model performance and iterate rapidly based on feedback.
ML Vision and Roadmap: Contribute to the strategic planning of the recommendations roadmap, aligning engineering efforts with business objectives and user needs.
Explore advanced architectures: Experience with frameworks like Two-Tower models and Deep Cross Networks (DCN) is a strong plus.
Qualifications:
8+ years of experience in backend engineering and/or data science, including 4+ years focused on machine learning. Experience with recommendation systems is a big plus.
Strong coding skills in Python, as well as proficiency in using ML frameworks like PyTorch or TensorFlow.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex technical challenges into business solutions.
Proven track record of leading projects and delivering impactful machine learning solutions.
Strong communication and documentation skills; capable of explaining complex, technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and to diligently document your work to help the team as a whole learn and move quickly.
Experience with Amazon SageMaker or similar MLOps platforms
