Strategic Purchaser - Direct
Job Summary
The Strategic Purchaser is an individual contributor role responsible for supplier evaluation, qualification, and management, cost reduction, sourcing, supply risk management, spend analytics, ERP/MRP utilization, and troubleshooting. This position will work closely with the Suppliers, tactical Buyers, Engineers, and Finance to provide an efficient and cost-effective supply chain, requiring a well-rounded understanding of our products, production, processes, and supply base capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Resolves vendor or contractor grievances and claims against suppliers.
- Develops KPIs of quality and delivery performance of assigned commodities and suppliers.
- Conducts cost analysis and negotiations for the pricing of purchased items.
- Leads efforts related to cost savings & MCV (Material Cost Variance) targets to support corporate targets.
- Develops supplier contracts for assigned commodities.
- Performs risk management activities of assigned commodities.
- Leads quarterly business reviews with strategic suppliers of assigned market supply segment.
- Collaborates with Global Purchasing of assigned market supply segments to leverage global spend and supplier technological advancements.
- Research market and economic trends that influence the assigned market supply segments.
- Develops and executes strategic commodity plans for key commodities.
- Establishes and maintains current master data in ERP system for suppliers and purchased items.
- Completes the placement of new product and specialized purchase order requests to the supply base.
- Contributes to the maintenance of “Approved Supplier List”.
- Completes supplier qualification and development.
- Collaborates with production planning to support the Material Disposition process.
- Interfaces with various internal functions such as Operations, Engineering, Accounting, and Quality to provide Strategic Purchasing support.
- Escalates expedites within the supplier’s organization when business unit expedites are not resolved.
- Establishes special supplier managed inventory programs to improve turns and reduce inventory.
- Provides purchasing support to New Product Development Engineering teams.
- Attends production and design review meetings.
- Participates in the Supplier Audit Program.
- Supports LEAN six sigma efforts to improve process efficiency.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or another relevant field.
- 3 (+) years’ relevant professional-level work experience preferred.
- CPSM or CPM certification preferred.
- Demonstrated ability implementing strategic projects to support corporate goals.
- Demonstrated ability working under pressure and handling multiple tasks.
- Mathematical and statistical analysis skills.
- Detail oriented with high level of accuracy.
- Demonstrated ability communicating effectively at all levels of an organization.
- Refined knowledge of and skill in MS Office Suite.
- Knowledge of and skill in ERP procurement modules.
- Demonstrates a willingness to collaborate with others, build relationships, and involve others in decision making.
- Demonstrates the ability to deliver results by solving or supporting others in solving problems, prioritizing tasks and/or resources, and focusing on outcomes.
- Demonstrates self-awareness and the willingness to learn and grow, accept changes, and effectively adapt to changing work demands.

Essential Job Functions
- Domestic & International travel required.
- Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
- Must be able to speak and understand English to communicate verbally and in writing.
- Regular and on-time attendance
- This is a hybrid position requiring at least three days in the office
