Product Manager I – Product Solutions
Job Summary
The role of the Product Manager I is to manage the business, customer relationships, and product lifecycle. This includes defining product requirements, pricing and forecasting, supporting engineering and manufacturing resources, and providing guidance during development projects. The Product Manager creates product roadmaps, defines key products, and identifies markets within their scope of responsibility. This role is responsible for the complete lifecycle of the products from definition through promotion, distribution, support, and discontinuation.
Responsibilities
- Guide the development and implementation of the regional business unit product roadmap by identifying regional and global product opportunities that offer significant revenue and margin potential that are within the scope of the product line and its strategic plan.
- Review opportunities presented by sales subsidiaries, customers, standards organizations, and other sources. Analyze all aspects of the opportunity and make recommendations on if and how the opportunity should proceed.
- Lead Specialists and Associate Product Managers in accomplishing objectives.
- Manage the lifecycle of the product. Product ranges will be expanded and maintained based on market needs and lifecycle.
- Establish and maintain a pricing strategy to global sales subsidiaries.
- Manage and implement Product Notification Change process globally.
- Manage quality issues and organize and lead team tasked to resolve issues.
- Develop and maintain a market and competition overview for the products managed.
- Launch products to other regional business units and subsidiaries within the business unit’s area of responsibility.
- Travel to industry events, customers and subsidiaries to obtain data and support product launches.
- Write functional specifications, customer value proposition statements, and expected benefit or loss (if not implemented) of a product or application concept.
- Lead the coordination of the development project according to the recognized and published Phoenix Contact global standards.
- Provide guidance to the engineering and manufacturing resources on individual approved projects.
- Develop the subsidiary sales organization through application-based training programs and joint sales efforts.
- Other duties as assigned by one’s Manager
Qualifications
- BS Degree in Engineering or a Business Administration Degree in Marketing/Sales.
- MBA and/or relevant professional certifications preferred but not required.
- 5 (+) years of relevant professional level experience preferred.
- Knowledge of current project and product management procedures and the proven ability to implement them, as demonstrated by completion of the PDMA New Product Development Professional (NPDP) or equivalent certification or experience.
- Demonstrated ability to lead multi-disciplined, international and cross-culture teams in a product development project.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to work independently.
- Proven track record of problem solving by analyzing situation and providing recommended path forward.
- Experience with the creation and negotiation of business contracts is a plus.
- Leadership, mentorship, and training skills.
- Demonstrated experience applying project management tools and techniques.
- Knowledge of corporate and industry standards
- Demonstrate initiative by understanding what actions need to be taken and completing the required tasks while seeking the perspective of others as required.
- Demonstrate an honest and forthright presence by taking responsibility for own mistakes and not blaming others and by doing what he / she commits to doing.
- Work as a team player to make a difference within the business and express gratitude and appreciation to others who have provided information, assistance or support.
- Readily handle change through taking advantage of lifelong learning opportunities and being open minded and curious in the face of new challenges.
Essential Job Functions
- Must be able to travel by air for trips, including international travel.
- Must be able to receive a passport
- Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to ride in a car for 4+ hours at a time.
- Must be able to work at a desk with a computer for up to eight hours per day.
- Must be able to sit/and or stand for extended periods of time (2-4 hours at a time).
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
- Regular and on-time attendance.This is a hybrid position unless otherwise specified requiring 3 days in the office.
