Role Overview
As the Ad Sales Leader for Large Clients, you will carry the P&L responsibility for driving ad revenue from India's largest brands in the Ecommerce, Retail, D2C, Food, Travel and AI sector. This is a foundational leadership role. You will not just manage a book of business; you will architect the zero-to-one setup for new publisher surfaces (including the Indus Appstore), design scalable monetization strategies, and build a high-performing merchant/client partner team from scratch.
Key Responsibilities
1. Revenue Ownership & Strategic Growth
- P&L Management: Own and deliver the annual revenue mandate for large enterprise clients across assigned verticals
- Joint Business Planning (JBPs): Establish and institutionalize strategic, long-term partnerships and JBPs with C-level executives and marketing heads of top-tier brands and media agencies.
- Multi-Publisher Monetization: Drive ad adoption across both the PhonePe Consumer Payments App (high-intent transaction traffic) and the Indus Appstore (app discovery and distribution traffic) along with a suite of external publishers in the near-term
2. Business Setup & Scaling (0 to 1)
- Go-To-Market (GTM) Strategy: Define the value proposition, ad product positioning, and pricing strategies tailored for large enterprise clients.
- Product Collaboration: Work closely with the Ad Product and Engineering teams to feed market insights back into the roadmap, helping build scalable ad tech solutions (branding, performance, and programmatic).
- PhonePe Ads Penetration: Drive larger share of digital marketing spends of top clients across both Brand & Performance marketing for Direct as well as Agencies
- Leadership Relationships: Build strong multi-tier relationships with CXOs across Direct & Agency base
- New Revenue Initiatives: Scope & build new revenue opportunities that leverages the PhonePe groups strength
3. Team Leadership & Capability Building
- Team Building: Recruit, mentor, and retain a world-class team of Sales/Client Partners, and Account Managers.
- Performance Culture: Foster a data-driven, consultative sales culture that focuses on solving client ROI challenges & be a client-growth partner rather than just selling inventory.
Profile Requirements
Experience & Background
- 10–12+ years of total experience, with at least 6–8 years of core digital ad sales experience at a top-tier digital publisher (e.g., Amazon Ads, Flipkart Ads, Disney+ Hotstar, Google, Meta).
- Proven track record of managing large revenue portfolios (PnLs) and delivering consistent YoY growth.
- 0-to-1 Build Experience: Demonstrated experience in setting up ad monetization for a new publisher or launching a new business vertical/product line successfully.
Technical & Domain Expertise
- Landscape Knowledge: Deep understanding of the Indian digital marketing ecosystem, including programmatic buying, data-driven targeting, attribution modeling, and app ecosystem dynamics.
- Vertical Rolodex: Existing, strong relationships with CMOs, Brand Heads, and Media Agency leadership (GroupM, Publicis, IPG, etc.) across the Ecommerce, Retail, Food, and Travel sectors.
