About This Role:

As the Vice President of Engineering at Pico MES, you will be responsible for the execution of our software engineering initiatives. You will lead and scale a dynamic team of software engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration. Your deep technical expertise, coupled with leadership skills, will enable us to deliver exceptional software solutions that enhance our MES offerings and integrate emerging technologies, including AI.  

What You'll Do:

  • Leadership: Lead, mentor, and build a high-performing engineering team, promoting professional growth, skill development, and a culture of best practices in software development.
  • Agile Methodology: Champion agile methodologies, ensuring efficient delivery processes and continuous improvement in software development cycles.
  • Best Practices: Define and enforce best practices for software development, including coding standards, testing protocols, implementation guidelines, and documentation.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Product Management, Integrations, and Customer Success, to identify and address engineering requirements for our clients.  This role will maintain clear reporting to the rest of the organization on the status of given projects, expected completion dates, and tradeoffs of different design options or project priorities as new requests are generated.
  • Quality Assurance: Oversee testing and validation processes to guarantee that software products are reliable, scalable, and maintainable.
  • Performance Monitoring: Establish KPIs and metrics to monitor software performance and user satisfaction, providing insights for product enhancements.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as a key point of contact for executive leadership and stakeholders regarding engineering initiatives, providing regular updates and cultivating strong relationships.
  • Stay Current: Continuously evaluate emerging software technologies and trends, assessing their potential impact on Pico MES’s offerings and overall strategy.

Who You Are:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with a strong focus on software architecture, development, and deployment.
  • Proven experience leading engineering teams in a fast-paced environment, with a hands-on leadership approach. Must have scaled a software engineering team at a venture backed startup to a team size of 10 or more.
  • In-depth knowledge of software development processes, particularly in manufacturing, IoT, and data collection systems is a plus.
  • Strong proficiency in Go and React is a plus.  A deep understanding of backend development and API design is required.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying challenges and delivering solutions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information to diverse audiences.
  • A collaborative mindset, with the ability to work effectively in a remote environment and nurture a culture of teamwork.
