The Platform Operations Engineer will be responsible for maintaining security and stability of Pico’s clients and internal systems infrastructure, investigating, and resolving operating systems and hardware issues as they arise. This is a customer-facing role, with individual responsibility for delivering quality service, supporting our client base and providing excellent customer service. The ideal candidate has a solid foundation in the Red Hat Linux operating systems, Virtual Machines (KVM, Hyper-V, VMWare ESXi), HPE and Dell servers, Bash, and Ansible. and ITIL (or comparable) operational (incident and problem management) and change management procedures. Must be comfortable working with Microsoft Windows Server and Active Directory.

Responsibilities and duties (including but not limited to)

  • Provide support service that ensures Pico’s infrastructure services are running to its optimum performance and that all departmental key performance indicators (KPIs) and Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are met.
  • Ensure stability and reliability of customer Pico Platform services.
  • Provide second level problem determination, triage, and expertise for client systems.
  • Deliver an outstanding level of service to Pico’s customer base.
  • Interface with vendors, market participants, and financial exchanges as needed to provide customer support.
  • Remotely oversee and verify on-site hardware repairs.
  • Create necessary technical and system documentation including diagrams, flowcharts, and scheduled reporting.
  • Perform preventative maintenance: Server operating system patching and firmware updates as required for stability and security.
  • Use scripts, Ansible and automation to support deployment and maintenance of applications and system settings.
  • Recording and taking ownership of issues using Pico ticketing system through to successful resolution.
  • Conduct analysis to determine root cause of technical issues.
  • Manage daily infrastructure checks and reporting.
  • Work with Platform Implementation and Engineering to improve efficiency and manageability.

 

Education, Skills, and background (incl. Education and Experience Requirements)

  • Computer Science, Information Systems, comparable degrees, or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of 4 - 8 years of experience in an operational environment
    • At least 4 years of operational experience with physical and logical server platforms
  • Experience in a financial industry support role preferred.
  • Experience with Linux and Microsoft Windows.
  • Experience with Red Hat Satellite.
  • Experience with configuration and use of server monitoring systems
  • Experience working with bare metal servers at scale.
  • Experience with HPE and Dell hardware and relevant systems management software.
  • Experience scripting in Bash, Ansible and Python
  • Experience with server capacity monitoring and troubleshooting (CPU load, disk space, memory contention, network I/O)
  • Strong network server-side network skills with an understanding of IP routing, TCP/IP, multicast, DNS, NTP and PTP.
  • Strong client-interaction communication and customer service skills.

 

Working Arrangements 

This is a remote position and though travel may be required from time to time, it is not expected to be regular or frequent. The role holder will be expected to work whatever hours are necessary for the performance of this role (recognizing that it involves multiple jurisdictions/geographies including but not limited to EMEA, USA and APAC).

Full compensation packages are based on candidate experience and relevant certification. 

New York Pay range

$140,000 - $160,000 CAD
