We specialize in acquiring access solutions businesses that provide installation, maintenance, and repair services for commercial gates, doors, loading docks, and integrated security systems. Operating in a highly fragmented industry, we partner with founder-led companies that have spent decades earning trust in their local markets. Our mission is to honor those legacies, enhance operations through disciplined execution, and drive growth through high-frequency M&A.

Position Overview

We're seeking a hands-on, operationally minded Controller to build and lead accounting operations at Piedmont Door Solutions (PDS), one of the largest and fastest growing businesses in the Cobalt portfolio. PDS operates across more than 10 branches and is entering a period of significant growth and infrastructure build. This role requires someone who can quickly assess a complex accounting environment, establish disciplined processes, and build a scalable function from the ground up -- all while rolling up their sleeves and doing the work alongside the team.

This role is full time Monday through Friday. The Controller is expected to be on-site and present across PDS branch locations as operational needs require.

Responsibilities

Accounting Operations & Close Management

  • Take ownership of day-to-day accounting across a multi-branch, multi-location operation and drive a reliable month-end close process
  • Rapidly assess the current state of accounting practices, identify gaps and breakdowns, and implement corrective structure
  • Provide direction and oversight to existing accounting personnel, clarifying roles, resetting expectations, and coaching up the team where possible
  • Perform hands-on accounting work as needed -- this is an environment where strong execution matters as much as leadership

Process & Infrastructure Building

  • Design and implement scalable accounting processes across branches, moving from ad hoc execution toward shared services infrastructure
  • Drive automation initiatives to reduce unnecessary back-office costs and redirect team capacity toward higher-value work
  • Develop financial reporting and FP&A-style outputs that give business leadership visibility into performance across the branch network
  • Take technically complex accounting guidance and translate it into practical, executable workflows for both the accounting team and operations

NetSuite & Systems Ownership

  • Own and optimize the NetSuite environment for accounting operations, establishing appropriate controls and access structures
  • Ensure accounting data integrity across the system and support the broader technology transition planned for the future
  • Identify opportunities to leverage system functionality to improve close efficiency, reporting, and process adherence

M&A Integration & Growth Support

  • Support accounting integration work as PDS continues to grow through acquisition, helping onboard acquired entities into the accounting framework
  • Serve as a finance leader capable of growing into broader CSP-level responsibilities over time
  • Partner with operational leadership to ensure accounting keeps pace with the speed of business growth

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred
  • 7 to 15 years of progressive accounting experience, with meaningful time in multi-location, multi-entity, or PE-backed environments
  • Strong NetSuite expertise required
  • Background in manufacturing, industrial services, field services, or similar operating environments strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to assess and stabilize an accounting function under pressure, not just maintain one
  • Player-coach mentality -- comfortable leading a team while remaining deeply hands-on
  • Strong understanding of GAAP; experience with job costing and multi-location P&L reporting a plus
  • Technology-forward mindset with a track record of driving automation and process improvement
  • Comfortable operating with ambiguity and moving fast in a dynamic, PE-backed environmen

What We Offer

  • Competitive base salary. The actual offer will be based on a variety of factors, including experience.
  • PTO & Paid holidays
  • Comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Professional development opportunities
  • Dynamic, growth-oriented work environment

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
