Staff Product Manager - Finance & Premium Audit

United States
Pie's mission is to empower small businesses to thrive by making commercial insurance affordable and as easy as pie. We leverage technology to transform how small businesses buy and experience commercial insurance.

Like our small business customers, we are a diverse team of builders, dreamers, and entrepreneurs who are driven by core values and operating principles that guide every decision we make.

The Staff Product Manager is an expert product practitioner who represents mastery of product management craft while developing readiness for product leadership responsibilities. They operate with exceptional autonomy across multiple teams, act as mentors to other product team members, and serve as thought partners to senior leadership while maintaining independent judgment. They create frameworks that drive organizational decision-making and establish systems for identifying emerging opportunities that scale beyond individual observation. You will report to the Director of Product for Data and Post-Bind Journeys (financial systems, premium audit, and claims) and work closely with Finance Operations, Engineering leadership, and cross-functional partners to identify opportunities, prioritize initiatives, and drive end-to-end execution from conception to impact measurement. You'll manage roadmaps across finance and premium audit domains, pioneering novel approaches to product management within third-party business systems while mentoring other product team members.

Mission For This Role

The Staff Product Manager for Finance & Premium Audit will lead the transformation of Pie's financial technology infrastructure, positioning us as a fintech-forward insurance company that leverages AI and automation to deliver exceptional experiences for small businesses and agency partners. This role will drive critical initiatives that modernize our financial operations, reduce manual processes, and create intelligent, self-service capabilities that scale with our rapid growth while maintaining the precision required in financial services.

How you'll do it

Finance Journey:

Our finance flows are the lifeblood of our business - collecting funds for protection and paying when risk is realized through our network of agency partners. You'll lead the rollout of our new billing and collections journey to enable flexible payment options, while ensuring timely and accurate distribution of collected premiums to agencies and reinsurers. Your focus will be maximizing insured and agent satisfaction through operational efficiency and modern fintech capabilities that support our newest line of business, Commercial Auto, and our flagship product, Workers’ Compensation.

Premium Audit Journey:

Workers' compensation premiums start with estimated payrolls and are adjusted post-audit to reflect actual figures - often resulting in additional payments and requiring coordination between insureds and agents. Your mission will be to simplify and enhance the audit experience for small business owners, minimizing the burden of unexpected costs and administrative tasks. This effort will differentiate Pie’s service from industry norms and increase satisfaction among insureds and agents, while simultaneously preserving value for Pie. You'll have the opportunity to implement AI-powered systems to automate payroll analysis, predict audit outcomes, and streamline the entire process.

Enterprise Business  Systems & Automation:

You'll define a novel operating model for product management within third-party business systems, working with system administrators and integration engineers in this non-traditional but critical configuration. You'll establish comprehensive automation frameworks that eliminate manual processes while pioneering scalable approaches to product management in vendor-dependent environments. This includes integrating these domains into Pie's Product Operating Model with appropriate adaptations for third-party platform constraints.

Key Outcomes For First 12 Months

  • New Billing Platform Success: Ensure successful rollout of the new billing journeys  to support key non-premium revenue initiatives and scale billing for both of our lines of business, with clear measurement of adoption, revenue impact, and operational efficiency gains.
  • Premium Audit Platform Transformation: Ensure successful rollout of the new premium audit platform and achieve related milestones for premium audit throughput, turnaround time, customer satisfaction, and premium collection, leveraging AI and automation to dramatically improve these metrics.
  • Strategic Opportunity Development: Develop a comprehensive view of the largest potential opportunities across your product domain over the next 12 months, identify which opportunities are most important and why, and develop a set of target impacts to be achieved over the next 6-12 months.
  • Product Operating Model Integration: Fully integrate your domains into Pie's Product Operating Model, incorporating product management into business systems (sprint ceremonies, backlog grooming, etc.) while making appropriate adaptations for the nuances of a third-party based product platform.
  • Strategic Partnership Building: Build high-trust, high-candor relationships with technology peers as well as Director+ level commercial partners invested in your domain, establishing yourself as a strategic thought partner with exceptional communication and influencing skills.
  • Automation & AI Implementation: Establish comprehensive automation frameworks that eliminate 50%+ of manual processes while implementing AI capabilities that provide measurable improvements in accuracy, speed, and customer experience.
  • Regulatory Excellence Framework: Establish automated compliance monitoring and reporting systems that ensure all financial operations meet regulatory requirements while enabling rapid innovation and feature deployment.

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
