Data Engineer Lead
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Pioneering Evolution is seeking a full-time, on-site Data Engineer Lead to design and implement secure, scalable data services for a federal software platform supporting financial modernization and compliance workflows. This role oversees the architecture of data models, APIs, and pipelines that enable traceable and audit-ready data flows across complex systems. The successful candidate will bring technical leadership, a strong command of PostgreSQL and C#/.NET Core, and a collaborative mindset. They will mentor others, advocate for clean and maintainable solutions, and take ownership of data quality and traceability in a mission-driven environment. U.S. Citizenship is required. This position requires a Secret Clearance and is based in the Washington D.C. metro area.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design and maintain normalized, domain-driven data models and schemas.
- Build and manage ETL pipelines for structured and semi-structured data from authoritative systems.
- Develop secure, version-controlled data APIs to support modular services.
- Track data lineage and apply rigorous labeling and validation for audit traceability.
- Optimize pipelines for real-time and near-real-time data delivery.
- Collaborate with platform and backend teams to integrate data into middleware services.
- Support AI/ML integration through well-structured data services and metadata tagging.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field.
- 7+ years of data engineering experience with strong ETL, modeling, and API development.
- Hands-on expertise with PostgreSQL, including advanced querying and schema optimization.
- Proficiency with C#/.NET Core and modern data service development patterns.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; able to communicate complex technical issues clearly.
- Collaborative mindset with mentoring experience or leadership responsibilities.
- Must be available to work full-time and on-site in the Washington D.C. metro area.
- U.S. Citizenship and an active Secret Clearance are required.
DESIRED EXPERIENCE:
- Familiarity with AI/ML data pipelines, explainability tools, and quality control practices.
- Experience with DoD or federal financial systems and data standards.
- Proficiency with AWS data services (Glue, RDS, Redshift) or Python-based ETL tools.
