About the Role:

PitchBook News seeks an experienced journalist to analyze and break news and cover major trends shaping the venture capital market. Based in San Francisco, this reporter will lead the production of PitchBook’s daily VC & emerging tech newsletter, setting its editorial direction while delivering consistent, short-form, and high-quality reporting.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

• Lead the production of PitchBook’s daily VC newsletter, owning its editorial direction, daily execution, and quality bar
• Build a newsletter experience that speaks directly to our core audience of venture dealmakers and founders, covering the market with an insider’s point of view and sharp, original analysis
• Deliver a steady stream of analysis of news and data as well as enterprise reporting
• Source and edit newsletter contributions from other reporters and PitchBook’s analyst team, ensuring a consistent voice and quality standard across the product
• Collaborate with PitchBook research analysts, data analysts, and data visuals team to produce unique, insightful journalism
• Build and cultivate a deep network of industry sources
• Attend major conferences or other relevant events in person, including some travel when needed
• Support the vision and values of the company through role modeling and encouraging desired behaviors 
• Participate in various company initiatives and projects as requested 

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree
• 8+ years of experience in financial journalism required, ideally on the venture capital and/or startup beat
• Must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship now or in the future

Preferred Qualifications:

• Proven track record of impactful, agenda-setting coverage of venture capital or technology
• Based in San Francisco with an established network of venture capital and technology leaders
• Demonstrated ability to write clearly and concisely with little or no rewriting by editors
• Skill navigating data to find insights and tell stories with charts
• Translate complex financial and tech topics with an engaging and authoritative voice
• Possess initiative and the ability to pitch and develop your own story topics independently
• Proven ability to juggle multiple projects amid various deadlines
• Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite, including in-depth knowledge of Outlook, Word, and Excel with the ability to pick up new systems and software easily

Compensation

• Annual base salary: $120,000-$150,000
• Target annual bonus percentage: 10%

The job conditions for this position are in a standard office setting. Employees in this position use PC and phone on an on-going basis throughout the day. Limited corporate travel may be required to remote offices or other business meetings and events.
