About the Role:  

As a Senior Product Manager (PM) at Planet, you will lead complex, multi-disciplinary engineering projects using your industry expertise and product vision. You will plan requirements with internal stakeholders including: coordinating input, managing the product roadmap, identifying risks, and clearly communicating them to stakeholders, as well as lead projects through the entire product lifecycle. You have familiarity explaining your analyses and recommendations to executives as you are discussing the technical trade-offs in product development with engineers.

You will be primarily responsible for the ongoing evolution of Planet’s Tasking products and platform which supports customers in placing and managing tasking orders from our SkySat, Pelican, and Tanager satellites.  You will lead the development of the Tasking Platform to ensure feature development is responsive to customer needs. You will work in collaboration with teams across Product/Engineering, Space Systems, and Commercial to ensure our customers can easily order and access high quality tasked imagery products. This role may evolve with the changing needs of our organization and the lifecycle of our constellations. 

This is an excellent opportunity for a PM that has experience and/or interest in both Earth Observation and software platforms and is flexible, adaptable, and looking for a role that has growth and learning potential. This role is central to Planet’s mission to image the entire Earth every day and make global change visible, accessible, and actionable.

This is a full-time, hybrid role which will require you to be in our Berlin office 3 days per week.

Impact You’ll Own:

  • Own the Tasking Strategy to support both internal and external users of our APIs and dashboard
  • Build and maintain the Tasking Platform Product Roadmap, including working closely with the engineering team and commercial teams to prioritize the most high-value product improvements
  • Ensure consistent execution of product lifecycle process from concept to launch
  • Support customer conversations to both capture feedback and requirements and support demos and onboarding
  • Work closely with the Product Managers for both high-res and hyperspectral imagery to ensure strategic alignment
  • Collaborate with the broader Platform team on the integration of tasked imagery to the Planet Insights Platform
  • Stay updated on industry trends and the competitive landscape to drive continuous product improvement
  • Motivate your team, foster a culture of innovation, and communicate effectively across the organization and with key customers

What You Bring:

  • 6+ years of relevant work experience, of which 3+ years is product management experience 
  • Familiarity with satellite tasking systems, either as a user or through experience working in a proximal space
  • Experience effectively collaborating with Engineering teams 
  • Experience working with and meeting the needs of customers
  • Experience working in a dynamic environment with an ability to tackle unique challenges presented by these conditions
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Growth mindset and willingness to step in where needed
  • Outstanding written and spoken communication skills and organizational skills
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize appropriately

What Makes You Stand Out:

  • Experience working with or as part of the Defense and Intelligence community
  • Experience using satellite imagery; familiarity with concepts like resolution, radiometry, rectification, 3D modeling, etc.
  • Understanding of the benefits and challenges of working with EO data
