About the Role:

Planet is seeking a Social Media Specialist to join our Communications team. The ideal candidate is a strategic, digital-native storyteller who can thrive at the intersection of technology, geopolitics, defense, sustainability, AI and space, and is excited to turn complex topics into stories that people want to engage with.

In this role, you will evolve and amplify Planet’s brand voice across social channels. Sitting inside a dynamic and high-stakes communications team, you will translate technical and business concepts into high-impact digital content for customers, investors, space enthusiasts, and the general public.

You’ll own day-to-day social execution while keeping content, assets and campaign timelines moving smoothly. At the same time, you’ll look beyond the day-to-day to identify new opportunities and find creative ways for Planet to stand out, give a fresh perspective, and lead conversations in the digital space.

This is a full-time, hybrid role which will require you to work from our San Francisco office 3 days per week.

Impact You'll Own:

  • Evolve Planet’s multi-channel social media strategy across LinkedIn, X, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook and Reddit to build brand awareness, engagement and meaningful connection with our audiences.
  • Develop social-first content and storytelling that brings Planet’s technology, people, customers and mission to life, while experimenting with new formats, platforms and approaches based on audience insights and performance data.
  • Own day-to-day channel operations using our social media management tool and content calendar, including content planning, drafting, asset gathering, scheduling, publishing, community engagement and performance reporting.
  • Report to and partner closely with the Executive Communications Manager to align social strategy with broader communications goals, including content strategy, copywriting, integrated campaigns, earned/owned media amplification and evergreen initiatives.
  • Collaborate with in-house and agency Creative teams to produce compelling, social-first visuals and multimedia assets.
  • Help support Planet’s executive social presence by helping translate leadership perspectives, business priorities and industry insights into authentic, platform-native content.
  • Collaborate with teams across Marketing, Government Affairs, Commercial, Product and more to turn business priorities into cohesive social storytelling and campaigns.
  • Build relationships with Planet’s online community through proactive engagement, social listening and thoughtful real-time response.
  • Monitor real-time news, industry conversations and cultural moments to identify opportunities for Planet to participate in relevant conversations, while providing reactive support when issues arise.
  • Track social KPIs, analyze performance metrics and deliver actionable insights to leadership to continuously optimize channel performance.

What You Bring:

  • 4–6 years of demonstrated experience managing daily social operations, executing digital campaigns, and growing communities for a technology company.
  • A proactive, self-starting mindset. You take initiative and bring fresh ideas, copy drafts and execution plans to reviews rather than waiting for assignments.
  • You’re naturally curious and have keen social listening instincts. You enjoy learning technical or specialized subjects (from satellite technology and AI to climate, defense and geopolitics) and know how to turn them into stories.
  • Exceptional copywriting skills with the ability to switch tones from professional B2B insights on LinkedIn to quick, conversational commentary on X.
  • Comfort in visual storytelling and the ability to create or adapt social assets using tools such as Figma Buzz, Adobe Creative Suite, Capsule or similar platforms.
  • High fluency with social trends, platform shifts and internet culture. You naturally know what makes engaging digital content and how to stop the scroll.
  • Demonstrated organizational and project management skills. You can manage multiple priorities, keep a content calendar moving and stay on top of details in a dynamic environment where priorities can shift quickly.
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise social management and analytics platforms such as Hootsuite, Sprout Social, etc.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing or a related field.

What Makes You Stand Out:

  • Experience with short-form video editing.
  • Experience partnering with external creative agencies, video vendors or freelance talent to produce high-performing social assets.
