Senior Manager, Content Operations

Remote

PlayOn is looking for a process-driven, editorially-minded Senior Manager, Content Operations to serve as a key leader connecting our Content team to revenue, marketing, design and product across MaxPreps and the broader PlayOn portfolio. Building and maintaining systems that better connect Content and Revenue is the top priority of this role, but MaxPreps is looking for a process-oriented leader who can represent the Content team in all settings.

Working closely with the PlayOn Sports revenue team, this role helps translate major content priorities and commercial opportunities into executable plans. The goals are protecting editorial standards, audience trust, and team capacity while unlocking new revenue. This is a remote role, with upfront travel to MaxPreps’ Sacramento, CA office expected for training and relationship-building. Reporting to the Sr. Director, Content Strategy and working in close partnership with key revenue, marketing and design leaders, the ideal candidate is equal parts operator, translator, and editorial advocate.

The Outcomes You’ll Deliver

  • Direct and Indirect MaxPreps Revenue Growth – Build the systems, workflows and operating rhythms that help the Content organization prioritize, plan and execute across editorial, social, production and commercial initiatives. While this role sits on the content team, ensuring revenue growth is a key metric for success.
  • Driving MaxPreps Audience Growth – Bridging the Content team with Marketing, Product and Design to ensure the company’s biggest content initiatives drive traffic and awareness back to MaxPreps, as well as down-funnel growth for membership and subscription services. This role requires a cross-functional thinker who can define the intent and target audience behind content decisions.

In this role, you can expect to

  • Content Operations Leadership – Build the systems, workflows and operating rhythms that help the Content organization prioritize, plan and execute across editorial, social, production and commercial initiatives.
  • Content–Revenue Liaison – Serve as the primary connection point between Content and Revenue/Client Strategy, translating commercial priorities into content-ready plans and making content capabilities and constraints clear to sellers.
  • Process & Playbook Development – Using the learnings from the Content-Revenue relationship, build and continually refine the workflows, templates, and playbooks that connect Content to other teams (Marketing, Design, Product).  Initiatives such as sponsorship packaging, revenue-friendly social formats, RFP/pitch creative development, pre- and post-sale production coordination transition from one-off custom asks to repeatable systems incorporating all key stakeholders.
  • Editorial & Resourcing Judgment – Apply strong editorial judgment and operational judgment to assess budgets, timelines and resource needs across Content priorities and commercial opportunities.
  • Cross-Functional Program Management – Own agendas, action items, and timeline tracking for recurring meetings between Content and other teams so every stakeholder knows what they own and by when. Marketing and design are key stakeholders, with this role overcommunicating and working closely with both departments, especially around major company tentpole events.
  • Tentpole & Campaign Support – Partner on flagship MaxPreps/PlayOn initiatives (e.g., Game of the Week, Flag Football Showdown) to ensure they deliver for both audience and brand-partner goals, including post-event reporting that supports renewed partnerships
  • Draft rough budgets and production timelines for custom, partner-driven content executions, and advocate for the resourcing the Content team needs to deliver
  • Proactively identify when an existing high-performing organic content series could be evolved to appeal to brand partners — without compromising what makes it work for the audience
  • Build and maintain the process muscle across Content and its cross-functional partners (revenue, marketing, product, design). Documented workflows, clear ownership, decision rights and playbooks that reduce one-off firefighting.
  • Prepare and lead cross-functional syncs — building agendas, distributing action items, and following up to keep every workstream on schedule
  • Support post-mortem materials after major tentpole events to help position MaxPreps for recurring business with brand partners
  • Balance commercial opportunity against audience trust, editorial integrity, organic programming priorities, and sustainable team capacity in every recommendation you make

To thrive in this role, you have

  • 5+ years of experience in content operations, integrated marketing, brand partnerships, or a similar role connecting editorial/creative and commercial teams
  • Genuine fluency in content and revenue — an appreciation for content’s role in building audience loyalty and trust, and revenue’s role in adding to (rather than detracting from) that relationship
  • A process-first mindset: comfort turning every one-off custom request into a repeatable workflow or playbook, and the discipline to hold teams accountable to deadlines
  • Strong editorial judgment, including the ability to reasonably estimate production budgets and timelines and to speak on behalf of the content team’s standards and capacity
  • Excellent program-management instincts — running agendas, tracking action items, and proactively communicating with key decision-makers on both sides
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable serving as a translator and trusted advisor to both content and sales leadership
  • Genuine passion for high school and youth sports and an instinctive appreciation for what’s at stake in telling these stories well for the athletes, families, schools, and fans who depend on them — prior industry experience is a plus, not a requirement
  • Ability to thrive with a high degree of autonomy in a fast-moving, growth-stage environment

How You Play

  • Ownership over Participation- You take responsibility for achieving holistic outcomes, prioritize key objectives, and adapt quickly when situations require a different approach. You follow through even against the toughest challenges.
  • Team over Stars- You are a bridge builder, establishing processes and relationships with teams outside your own. You work to rally around common goals, find win-win solutions, compromise when necessary, and help others succeed.
  • Growth over Comfort- You are driven by a desire to grow and actively seek opportunities to expand your comfort zone, skills, and confidence. You embrace new challenges with curiosity, accepting discomfort and failure as opportunities to learn.
  • Fairness over Popularity- You approach decisions with a scientist’s mindset, challenging your assumptions and remaining objective. You consider long-term impact rather than relying on short-term gains, proactively seek others’ perspectives, and manage emotions in decision-making.

PlayOn is where high school sports come to life. Through GoFan, NFHS Network, and MaxPreps, we give every fan a front-row seat to the moments that matter most: the buzzer-beaters, the comeback wins, the senior nights, the rivalries that define a town.

We built our technology for the people who live and breathe high school athletics — the parents who never miss a game, the alumni still cheering from across the country, the communities that show up week after week. From buying tickets to watching a live stream to reliving the highlights, we make it simple to stay close to the sports and the athletes you love most.

Backed by KKR, we build the technology that powers high school athletics from the inside out: Schools trust us to handle ticketing, streaming, fundraising, concessions, merchandise, and more so the people running programs can stay focused on the athletes and fans we all serve together.

We're a growth-stage company on a mission to make high school sports more accessible, more memorable, and more connected than ever before.

When being there means everything, we make sure you never miss a moment.
