About the Role 

Plus Power recruits outstanding energy industry professionals who are driven to develop, build and operate assets safely and reliably to decarbonize the power markets while growing their careers. We are looking for a Head of Trading & Risk Management to lead the trading activities and P&L management for our growing book of operating assets.   

Key Responsibilities 

  • Direct and lead the Plus Power Trading team in pursuit of financial optimization for all Plus Power battery energy storage projects within an ISO  
  • Develop and improve processes for (a) load and price forecasting, (b) optimizing energy revenue in the Day Ahead and Real Time markets, and (c) and improving tools & platforms used by the team 
  • Manage established hedge trading positions, including settlements, credit support, and P&L monitoring; 
  • Regularly evaluate hedging strategies for the projects and portfolio 
  • Provide consultative review of ISO asset contracting opportunities to ensure any long-term agreements align with market and asset strategy 
  • Regularly review market portfolios to identify risk elements; develop recommend strategies for risk mitigation and/or revenue enhancement  
  • Lead reporting of daily, weekly, monthly, and YTD positions and P&L  
  • Lead market entry for any new market trading operations including SPP and PJM 
  • Manage existing market counterparties and arrangements (ERCOT QSE and ISONE Lead Market Participant). 
  • Retain and develop energy trading personnel to create an industry-leading energy trading function at Plus Power  
  • Monitor & automatically report daily market exposures and positions 
  • Perform analysis, drafts memos, and present profit and loss results to senior management  

 

Skills & Qualifications 

  • Minimum BA/BS in economics, finance or related field; advanced degree preferred.  
  • 10+ years in North American electricity and natural gas markets trading roles with progressively increasing levels of responsibility   
  • Knowledge of and experience trading DA-RT markets in ERCOT, ISO-NE, PJM, and other RTOs  
  • Exceptional quantitative and analytical capabilities, combined with deep institutional knowledge of trading practices, markets, and risk management 
  • Ability to design, build, implement, and continuously enhance automated trading and risk management tools 
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically, translate business objectives into actionable priorities, and lead teams through execution 
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and influence stakeholders at all levels, including senior executives and external parties 
  • Ability to translate complex technical analyses and concepts into clear, concise, and actionable insights for technical and non-technical audiences 
  • Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and proactively develop and drive solutions 
  • Demonstrated ability to operate with a high degree of autonomy, navigate ambiguity, exercise sound judgment, and lead effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment 
  • Demonstrated success building strong cross-functional partnerships and influencing technical and non-technical stakeholders across a geographically dispersed organization 
  • Demonstrated experience building, leading, and developing high-performing teams 
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel 

 

Compensation, Location, and Benefits

The expected salary range* for this position begins at $275,000. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range based on several factors including, but not limited to relevant experience, skills, qualifications, geographic labor market, and other factors consistent with applicable law. This position is also eligible to participate in our annual bonus program.
