Poka, a rapidly expanding B2B SaaS company with a global customer base, offers excellent prospects for both personal and professional advancement. The Financial Controller, working in close collaboration with the Accounting team, will oversee the company's financial accounting. This key role is essential for supporting Poka's ongoing expansion within a multi-entity structure.
Accounting-related responsibilities:
- Plan and supervise all operational accounting functions, including full accounting cycles for Revenues, payroll, Expenses, and journal entries
- Actively supervise and participate in the month-end and year-end close
- Preparation and analysis of monthly financial statements
- Ensure all transactions are accurately recorded within the appropriate legal entities (CAD, US, and EUR) and complete the required intercompany journal entries accordingly
- Prepare and submit the required reporting documents to IFS
- Oversee payroll processing and controls
- Prepare year-end files and liaise with IFS
- Administer company bank accounts and cash-related processes
- Prepare regulatory reports and ensure compliance requirements are met
- Analyze and ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards
- Evaluate current accounting operations, recommend improvements, and implement new processes
- Assess accounting systems and tools, propose enhancements, and support implementations
- Coach and develop members of the accounting team
Tax-related responsibilities:
- Support corporate income tax filings (Canada and USA) in coordination with IFS and external advisors
- Oversee indirect tax compliance (e.g. sales taxes) and related filings
- Assist with transfer pricing support, intercompany documentation, and tax-related audits
- Monitor changes in tax regulations and assess potential impacts on the business
What you bring to the table:
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in accounting, including experience in a SaaS or technology environment
- Strong knowledge of ASPE and IFRS, with hands-on experience preparing financial statements and supporting audits
- Experience with SaaS revenue recognition (including subscription-based models, ARR/MRR tracking, deferred revenue, and multi-element arrangements)
- Proven ability to strengthen internal controls and optimize accounting processes in a fast-growing organization
- Experience managing the full accounting cycle, month-end close, payroll and year-end processes with a focus on accuracy and timeliness
- Experience managing or mentoring a small accounting team and collaborating cross-functionally (Finance, Sales, Operations, People)
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate financial data into clear insights for leadership decision-making
- High level of autonomy and ownership, with the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, lean environment
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and changing priorities
- Professional rigor, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to risk mitigation and compliance
- CPA designation (or in progress) is a strong asset
- Excellent knowledge of French and English, both written and spoken
- Experience with Salesforce and FinancialForce (or similar ERP systems), an asset
